i'm also burned out on OK Computer, but i ranked it so high based on how much and for how long i loved it.

i don't think i'll ever burn out on Funeral. for me, it's like putting on Quadrophenia or Abbey Road. it's an insanely recent classic.

Funeral has that organic quality of long lasting albums like Abbey Road. We will see in another ten years. The Bends is already sounding rather dated, like a Filter record.

oh yeah, in the confusion amidst the TSB placing, I at first assumed I had just gotten the thousand digit wrong (which I inadvertently do sometimes), so that would've bumped it to the #4 placing. But that didn't seem right either, so I did the re-calculation. Forgot to fix it on the spreadsheet.

Despite all the bleating (and can I first say that 2 and 3 I would have expected in the top 30 not top 3) this isn't an all time poll so there's no Beatles or Clash to contend with so I can't really see any other album that deserves to be number one after polling 70 odd people (it was on what 85% of the lists) Do we really think any of the other albums in the top 10 would have looked more sensible at #1.

Great job though Bill.

Bad SOMB, Good Dr. Bill.

Radiohead have done many things, but they have not released the three best records of the last 10 years.
falling and laughing
I had no delusions that stuff like clientele's suburban light or the history of our world pt. 1 was gonna place, but sheesh SOMB buy some Broadcast and Herbert records. And go back and listen to Hot Shots II again. I have no idea how that record wound up with such a poor rep, unless everyone really expected the betas to resurrect the shuffly acoustic sound from their first EP and kept punishing them if they didn't.
Bobzilla
Weird to see 3 Radiohead albums at the top, but I can't complain too much. I had all 3 on my list (at 26, 71 and 99).

Fantastic job again Dr. Bill. Now take a few days off to rest up before we start the 2006 year end voting frenzy.

I'm one of those 7. Took some getting used to, but I think it's weirdly warm and wonderful. It speaks to me far more than some of their 80s albums do (Fables and Green in particular). Reveal and Around the Sun are far worse.

This was one of the more fascinating lists, historically speaking. Very weird to see The Bends, too. Note how this top 10 stacked up on the strength of a multitude of ranks, and not just #1 ranks. Interesting.

I wouldn't have voted it higher if I didn't. I also believe

Neutral Milk Hotel - Aeroplane Over the Sea
Daft Punk - Discovery
The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs
Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin
Fugees - The Score
Belle & Sebastian - Tigermilk
Yo La Tengo - I Can Feel the Heart Beating As One

are better choices. YHF is an amazingly textured album that applies the best of Eno's atmospheric explorations with Americana for sexy results. Oh, and I DEFINITELY think it's a better choice for 2nd or 3rd best album of the time period.

Just slightly miffed it was predictable, I suppose.

the main thing is that there aren't many boarders who vote for only hip-hop, only dance, jazz, metal, etc.--but there are a bunch of boarders who essentially only vote for indie rock (or at least, rock-based music of a non-mainstream variety)

Probably time I started a sickpup like push to limit voting to 20 albums per genre.

why would you even WANT to do that? If my favorite album track happened to be a single, then I shouldn't vote for it... why? or did you mean to say like trying to get people not to vote for their favorite album tracks when they AREN'T singles.

it's not that you shouldn't vote for album tracks as singles--obviously just about every single comes from some album--but I think it should be strongly encouraged for boarders to look outside of their favorite albums for singles worth voting for, since it's the only place where artists who don't release the most consistent albums (or in the case of many electronic artists, don't release albums at all) can get their due. If everyone just voted for singles off their favorite albums, there really wouldn't be much of a point in doing the poll, since it would end up looking nearly identical to the albums poll.

All in all, I think the list was all right. Definately some amazing moments, but a fair few "WTF!?" ones as well. Radiohead top three was definately one of those, though I did have all those albums on my list.

Mainly I'm just angry about Set Yourself On Fire place at 251!. I'm going to assume that a lot of people thought it was an '05 album. But I definately should've had it a bit higher on my list, probably at number 5 or so.

Yeah, I'll be curious to see how the outstanding singles off of almost universally panned albums fare... thinking "When You Were Young" and "You Only Live Once" for example. Will they suffer from the general negative vibe surrounding the Killers/Strokes this year?
