There are a couple of songs off of this album that have leaked about a month ago. I have three. I initially found the songs off of stereogum then. I love this new shit. In my opinion, it's the best thing that Danger Mouse has ever even thought of doing. I've been a fan of Cee Lo since I first heard Goodie Mob's Soul Food, and I also think this is the best project that he is worked on. You can go to the official website and join the mailing list, which I recomend,
http://www.gnarlsbarkley.com . Prediction; this shit is going to be huge when it comes out. Here is a Cee Lo interview from ALLHipHop.com,
http://www.allhiphop.com/hiphopnews/?ID=4335 , The songs that I have are called Untitled 1, Untitled 2, and Crazy. If you know of any others let me know. And I'm STILL trying to find You In Reverse!!!!
Update!!! I just found 2 new songs! On limewire I found a song called "Track 7" and also, now this is REALLY random, Gnarls Barkley covers The Violent Femmes' (One of the greatest bands on the face of the dirt) "Gone Daddy Gone" , of course the original is better. I'm still looking to stream these. If you have heard these songs, let me know what you think!!! I'm Lurking!

Just in case someone doesn't read Pitchfork
Cee-Lo & Danger Mouse Ready Gnarls Barkley Debut
Matt Amis reports:
It's the round mound of soul sound: Gnarls Barkley! One of the most tantalizing combinations since Mr. Pibb and Red Vines, DJ/producer Danger Mouse and crooner/rapper Cee-Lo Green have been brewing up their highly anticipated Gnarls Barkley project for the better part of a year. They've even produced one of Pitchfork's favorite jams already: the not-even-white-label leak "Crazy", which placed at number 36 on our Top 50 Singles of 2005 list. Now, details are finally emerging about the full-length album.
St. Elsewhere, is the name and May 2 is the date. Write this down. It will come to us via Downtown Records/Atlantic, and will be preceded by a proper release of "Crazy" on April 10. While the album is not sequenced yet, other songs confirmed to have made the St. Elsewhere cut include "Go-Go Gadget Gospel", "Feng Shui", and "Necromancing". We also heard a Gnarls Barkley cover of the Violent Femmes' "Gone Daddy Gone" that's been floating around the internet, but the less said about that the better.
Just two days prior to St. Elsewhere's release, on April 30, Gnarls Barkley will play its inaugural live performance alongside Tool, Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, Damien 'Jr. Gong' Marley, Franz Ferdinand, and many, many more, at Coachella. As of this exact moment, no additional tour dates are ready to announce. But stay tuned: if they're anything like Sir Charles, they won't be able to stay out of the spotlight for too long.
Cee-Lo is also working on a project with superproducer Jazze Pha entitled Happy Hour. So far, only one song, "Happy Hour", has been released by the duo, but a full album is in the works. Ciara, the Pussycat Dolls, Mannie Fresh, Aaron Hall, Keith Sweat, and Nate
Dogg.

I'm not a huge hip-hop fan but I was alittle dissapointed by the Danger Doom album. It was good but "Madvillany" I think was much better and Danger's work with the Gorillaz was more impressive as well.

Agreed. In terms of Doom from that time, I definitely prefer stuff like Mmm Food!, Viktor Vaughan Vaudeville Villain and Madvillainy. In fact, I probably prefer DM's album with Gemini. OVERLOOKED!

I'm not so sure its been overlooked as much as forgotten. It seemed to get a decent amount of talk when it came out, but fell off really quickly after a bit. It's a great album though and I was shocked to find the vinyl in Virgin's bargain bin for 50 cents a couple months ago. That was a sweet find.

For anyone who knows me, this will come as no surprise, but I'm far more looking forward to DangerMouse's work on the upcoming Damon Albarn solo album. Though I like the sounds on Gnarls, Cee Lo's voice is too one-dimentional.
To date:
Demon Days > DM & Gemini > DangerDoom > Gnarls

what the fuck do Doo-Wop and Snap music have in common?
It is a NEW SOUND perhaps, but I see no merit in it whatsoever. It is dull, lifeless, and utterly moronic. It's like the rap equivalent of bands like Panic at the Disco and Coheed and Cambria, except it goes in the complete opposite direction. It's despicable.
Admittedly I'm only going on the songs that have been hits so far, and I do hope a new single or rapper comes out that proves me the fuck wrong. But at the moment it seems like an utter low point for 00s pop music.

Doo Wop and snap = minimal small ensembles coming from an afro-american music tradition that create incredibly simple yet very popular music?
I don't understand why it deserves that much bile.
The thing about snap music is its fun summery singalong disposable pop, and for a dude with a largely popist outlook its weird to me how worked up it gets you.
I said this on IM w you dr. bill, but I'm really in the middle about snap music. I enjoy it, but writing about it is either hokey and overwrought or overly dismissive, and I think its just some cool dance music that people so mad about the guns n gangstas rap music should really be all over.
The Good Dr Bill
Apr 24 2006, 01:21 AM
Doo-wop was all sugary and innocent and hooky though. I don't see any of that in snap. I don't see it as partciularly summery or singalongy either. The only even slightly memorable hook Snap has yet produced is the "Laffy Taffy" chorus and even that's so simple and dumb it barely even registers. I don't even think it qualifies as dance music--I feel absolutely NO rhythmic propulsion from the music. And don't get me started with that retarded fucking snap "lean wit it, rock wit it" move that's supposed to qualify as a dance.

Apr 24 2006, 01:23 AM
Dude its absurdly easy to dance to.
And on what planet is "Laffy Taffy" not SUGARY.
The Good Dr Bill
Apr 24 2006, 01:26 AM
it's deadening music. Sugary is The Ohio Express's "Yummy Yummy Yummy," The Four Seasons' "December 1963 (Oh What a Night)," Boy Meets Girl's "Waiting for a Star to Fall," DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince's "Summertime," Modjo's "Lady (Hear Me Tonight)"
"Laffy Taffy" is miserable and lifeless. It is not sugary.

haha yeah I'm late on this and it comes right at the end of a snap music debate (not a fan of snap music, perhaps it is like abstract art, it gets better when you know it's history but it is incredibly easy to make, just steal fruty loops and use it for about 3 days)
But I'm liking this Gnarls Barkley disc. I wish a few of these songs would go a bit longer. they seem to end very quickly but I like it. I even like go go gadgets beat. its got a ton of energy.
also, who ever wrote that article sounds more pissed at seventeen year old boys for liking napolian dynamite than gnarls barkley.

I wouldn't say its the 'new doo wop,' but it has a similar aesthetic appeal.

I dont recal anyone saying genius. you realize that adding words to someone else is a way to compensate for your own over-reactions? anyway, I said I like it, it has energy, and to add I think these two work together alot better than Doom and Mouse or a few other "different" mix ups.
and though I don't wanna bring back a whole nother debate I was not part of 30 minutes before I leave for work, snap music is bland. it has no life. it might be a new form of music but it doesnt make it worth while.
"I want that laffy laffy" does not = good. snap music in general is simple. it is honstly about a 20 minute process with fruity loops to make a song similar to the majority of songs already out there. I can see why you might get the doo wop comparison but it doesnt mean it is right.
boobs
May 3 2006, 06:51 PM
doo wop is simple, 'simplicity' =/ quality.
And for all its 'simplicity,' most snap music I've heard is 10x less boring than "Crazy." And frankly "Crazy" isn't exactly tipping the scales on the prog-meter either.

"Crazy" is still a great song.
Agreed.
The opening gambit of that article - 'It’s not a rap record' - said all I needed to read. Of course it's not a rap record. So what? DM described it as 'psychedelic soul', and while I don't think it's particularly psychedelic, that description is far more fitting than 'rap'.
Why should it be a rap album? Because Ceelo used to rap years ago? Because DM is ostensibly a HipHop producer? Nonsense. It's a great pop album, nothing more. And that's fine by me, because it doesn't have to be anything more.
The main problem with that article is that the author wants to be the first to backlash against Gnarls, and because there's nothing to lash out on it about, he created something.
