Yeah, (Evil Dead 2) is next on the Netflix qeue. Although, from the reviews and plot summaries that I have read, it looks like it's more or less identical to the first one (but better, apparently.) Not that that's a bad thing at all.
Plotwise - it's exactly the same. But stylistically, it's incredible. There's a sense of manic humor added to the whole thing which really pushes the sequel into a more "psychedelic Python-esque" direction. You're gonna love it.

Yeah, it's a classic.
If you get a chance listen to the commentary from Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell. They're great because they don't take themselves seriously at all, and point out a bunch of mistakes, little anecdotes, etc.

And, if you're going that way, then read the first installment in Bruce Campbell's memoirs. The stories from the Evil Dead and Evil Dead II movies are hysterical.

I'd love to give Ron Howard a pass simply based on the Arrested Development goodwill, but the guy's a miserable hack. Hanks is fairly lousy in a mostly thankless role, though Audrey Tatou is surprisingly charming in English. Still, this is a plodding, remarkably boring, and relentlessly murky-though-milquetoast ride.

well, well, well.. isn't this a funny comedy-not. Sure Oliver Platt plays a good drunk but I've seen him do more with better material and the idea that the running time for this was 88 minutes certainly does raise a couple questions in my mind. I'm not familiar with the book but it doesn't seem to me like Benton & Russo are apt to writing a shorter script on purpose. I sense there was more here but it just wasn't 'funny' so they cut it out perhaps? No ones performance was particularly bad but this just sort of went along the parameters of yer average modern noir. btw. is there really a mob in Wichitaw?

Yeah, Evil Dead 2 is my favorite installment of the Evil Dead trilogy. It meshes horror and comedy so flawlessly toegether that it makes for a solid flick.

and yeah, definitely watch the commentaries. they are hilarious just because Campbell and Raimi will just laugh at each other and their shortcomings. It's like a seperate movie in itself.

Movie takes place in the late 50's in which an acting troupe go to a small village and get "stuck" there. Not much action but the story and the way it is filmed is beautiful. This would be the 3rd Ozu film I have seen and I consider him a master of emotion for the screen. I would also Highly reccomend "Good Morning".

All the above are true. Worse for me though is the collective lazy man's 'record it now to watch later' aspect of it. I've filled nearly the entire capacity of my hard drive with flicks & programs that I've yet to watch. It tends to instill this new necessity to hold onto these and adds this additional pressure to watch them.

It's bizarrely fascinating, in a low-rent Kubrick kind of way. That scene with the black tie ball meets swinger party is like Eyes Wide Shut filmed on the set of AI starring the cast of an upscale '70s porno. Glorious!

I wouldn't mind seeing it again now that I've read the plot synopsis. Missing the first few minutes of it and trying to piece together the plot at 4 am really fucked with my brain.

I'd seen the first half of this at least three times on TV (Comedy Central used to show it Saturdays at midnight sometimes, maybe they still do) but was never able to stay awake for the second half. But I thought it was hilarious so I really can't imagine why I never made it all the way through. Watching it without commercials, obviously, remedies this problem.

Watching him say goodbye to his friends at the end, and then finally getting to heaven... it kind of choked me up a little.

The scenes with Brando are spectacular. They only cut him out to save money. Geez, studios! Anyway, as a movie I don't think "The Donner Cut" works. There's just too much that is incomplete; but if you are a fan, I'd rent it just to see the Brando stuff. Also, I should note that Margot Kidder is quite fetching in the Donner scenes and a lot spunkier.

He looked fine in real life. In the movie, he looked like an aging boxer, which is how he's supposed to look.

The thing with this movie is that Stallone's not trying to make it seem like he's invincable. He's not hiding the fact that he's 55+, not in the greatest shape, etc. Even the reason that he's fighting is not so much a tough guy thing, but more of "I've got to do this for myself". It's really not a bad film.
