I saw the first disc Of Kevin Smith II as well, and no--it's not as good as the original, (welcome to the internet, what is?) but I thought it was still pretty damn funny. It's kinda weird how Jay is never really that good.

He shot his creative wad coming up with "snoochie boochies"

Mewes or Smith?
I don't think Mewes has ever directed anything. Unless you count directing a needle into his own arm
By-Tor
Isn't there a trailer for it on the disc?

I remember now--it was Halloran, not Jay.

Randall is the guy who directed a movie, which was filmed in 2002, but came out on dvd the same day as clerks 2.

Honestly makes me want to finally add Jersey Girl to my collection. I only saw it once and thought it was okay... figured I'd wait until the ultra, deluxe DVD version, but apparently that's never going to happen.

It'll happen a week after you buy Jersey Girl

Yeah, good call. I looked it up on Wikipedia and Smith said in a recent interview that the company has no interest in releasing the deluxe DVD set now, but may do so in a few years. So I'm probably okay to pick it up the next time I'm at Best Buy or Target or wherever. It's only $10.

It was just one of those things I never got around to. Around the time the Office US started (maybe a couple months before), I took season 1 home, watched an episode, and thought it was ok, moved on. loved the office US, watched extras, started listening to the podcasts, and finally bothered to bring the OFFICE UK home again. Probably the only reason we even finished it now is that there's no TV on right now. It's still my least favorite (between the two office's and extras).

I was thinking today that because in 2006 I experienced:

A Season of OFFICE US
One AMAZING Season of EXTRAS
2+ Seasons of OFFICE UK
3 Seasons of Podcasts (+ the holiday podcasts)
1 season of XFM Podcasts (2002, I believe)
An Episode of The Simpsons
5 Minutes in For Your Consideration

that Gervais has he has had involvement in has led to more entertainment for me than anyone else this year. Probably by a factor of 10.

edit: I think I saw Politics and Animals in 2006 also (maybe late 2005).

Not nearly as good as I remembered. Some good moments, but the whole thing seems dated.

Didn't expect to see Joanie Stubbs (Kim Dickens) as Zero's love interest - kinda weird to see actors turn up in older movies like that.

I know, it's like Nick from the Deer Hunter gave up Russian Roulette, went back in time, and got really really funny.

I caught it at the show with my buddy and his kid. Yeah, it's just another dumb kids movie, but I think a lot of kids would like it. As for grading it on an adult's scale, u've gotta admit that Mickey Rooney was hilarious, and Dick Van D was pretty awesome as well.

Only in the "oh, cool, the octagenarians can still get work" sense. Mickey overacted his part, and Dick did a poor re-creation of Mark Sloan. Diagnosis suckage.

However, I did go see it with my nephew, and he laughed a lot.

*It's the 1950s era of outing communists and other anti-American degenerates. A new actor is seeking work. A potential agent asks his name. "Penis van Lesbian," the actor says. "What?!" asks the agent. "Penis van Lesbian," the actor repeats. "You've got to change your name if you're going to work in this town," says the agent.

A few days later, the same actor comes back. "Have you got a new name?" the agent asks. "Yes!" the actor proudly proclaims. "Dick van Dyke."

Thanks! I'm here all week!

Strong and conflicting feelings, but generally impressed.
What turned me off the most- it was the same plot of Crimes and Misdemeanors (my favorite Woody Allen) minus the funny. imo, his greatest attribute as an artist is his ability to combine comedy and drama in a truly poignant and striking fashion. So there was that, but I think as far as his dramas go it was a big step up from the Ingmar Bergman wannabes such as Interiors (which I actually liked, but for purely self-indulgent non critical reasons). I think me being impressed by this film is twofold. 1. I appreciate artists' obsessive themes and 2. I appreciate growth and, to an extent, originality. I guess I liked this film more as a step in Mr Allen's growth as an artist and maybe less were it by anyone else

I might understand someone appreciating it as a step up for Woody's more dramatic work. I have, until now, stayed away from Woody's more serious films, but I heard this was really good. It might be that the boring (Rhys-Meyers) and unnatural (Johannsson) acting pulled me out early and kept me from enjoying the film. But the more I think about the dialogue and the plot, the worse the movie seems on its own, and not just because of the two leads. The worst aspect of the film for me is that Allen spent the first hour and a half developing a situation that (1) everybody is familiar with and (2)(which is more important) could have been done effectively in twenty minutes.

I'm sorry, I don't like to harp on films that other people like just because i didn't enjoy them. I can usually figure out why people might like it even if I don't. But I'm lost on this one. And EVERYBODY else seems to like it.

Agreed. I really enjoyed it when I first saw it, and I still can't say I dislike it, but it certainly hasn't aged well for me. I'm trying to see it as a necessary step toward the great dramatic work I'm expecting to see before Allen dies.

The Lost Room (Sci-Fi mini-series)

I'm usually not hot to trot for much sci-fi channel stuff but this was killer.
Outside of really great casting and a rather smart script idea made for this psuedo X-Files meets Twilight Zone type deal.

It's about a cop gets mixed up with a sort of underground battle for the control for some ordinary looking objects that came out of a hotel room which allow people to have various sorts of powers. Overall he's trying to rescue his daughter who gets 'lost' when she goes into the 'room'.. rather cool deal all around.

Currently sitting in my tivoesque cue:

Long Good Friday
Ashes & Diamonds
The Loved One
Rules of the Game (I've seen this several times-just thought to revisit again)
Summer of Sam (one of the few Spike Lee flicks I haven't seen yet)
8 1/2 Women (I hold know real hope for Greenaway anymore but I should check it)
I'll Sleep When I'm Dead
The Machinist

plus another dozen I can't remember. go fig.
By-Tor
I wouldn't wish viewing the Machinist on my worst enemy.

And Long Good Friday is pretty good British crime fare, but it leaves you wanting more. It's like Hoskins alone wasn't enough to drive the film.

Not a good movie to watch when you're depressed. Interesting animation, though. After the first 10 minutes I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get into a movie that has about 5 minutes of actual videos in it (as opposed to animated paintings and Ken Burns-style panning on still photos) but it develops a nice rhythm to it as it goes along. If it was any longer than 80 minutes, though, it would probably start to get pretty boring. I'd heard of this guy before and read about him online. I wonder what anyone else with no prior knowledge of Henry Darger would think of it.

IPB Image
Good film. Had to watch it with captions just to catch all the dialog. I still don't really know what the deal with the actress girl was. What a break for Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I don't think anyone expected to see much more of him after TV.
