The problem I have with Children of Men is that I feel like I've already seen the whole thing based on the obnoxious preview. Can't they leave a little to the imagination. I really want to see Little Children, that is if it ever makes it out to the burbs.

For my birthday tomorrow, got family to watch the baby and seeing double feature with my wife. What to choose from these four playing at the local theater:

Children Of Men

Night in the Museum

Dreamgirls

We Are Marshall

Children of Men and then a motel with hourly rates. Cheers.

That's not a bad idea. Those times have been rough.

I was going to suggest just seeing Children of Men twice (I know Dreamgirls is supposed to be good, but I HATE HATE HATE Musicals). However, I have to give a hearty thumbs up to the motel idea instead. Just make sure it doesn't lead to ANOTHER baby you have to find someone to watch just to get laid.

And, I haven't seen the Children of Men commercials, but I read the book, and the movie still held lots of surprises. The early trailers also was mostly footage from the first 20 minutes or so.

Slackmo's avatar suddenly makes sense. Or something.

I liked this one pretty well--M. Night Shyamalan is really hit or miss (Lady in the Water, Signs = misses; Sixth Sense = hit; and The Village sort of falls in between). His films tend to end very abruptly.

Some good laughs in here, but not enough.
Lange can't act to save his life. When he's trying to be funny, it mostly comes off like he's doing a second rate Rodney Dangerfield impersonation.
Nice to see Ralph Machio working again.
If you are a big fan of the Stern show, rent it. If you aren't a big Stern fan, wait for cable.

Fucking great, and I'll renew my efforts to get it at the festival, but time is running out.

I don't believe Mama Erickson died, or at the very least, that's not why Sumner has custody. Sumner took her to court, and they remanded custody to Sumner.

I've always gotten the feeling that the concensus is that the show dips after Season 2. I feel Season 4 is treading water. Other than a very controversial plotline involving David, I feel like I can never even remember what went on. Season 3 is great though. A spectacular season opener, one of the best episodes of the series, and a really dramatic, conflicted and nuanced plotline for Nate.

Good movie for its time. Dunno if you're a baseball fan, but Jim Bouton (writer of "Ball Four") has a small role in that flick.

From the scene in the bar where they contact him, to when he actually has the bag, contains about 75 minutes of him picking crabs out of his crotch, her playing the guitar, and the two of them "agonizing" over whether they should go through with it, which is of course never in doubt. It's only broken up by a signature Peckinpah misogynist passage in which he makes the female complicit in her own rape.

So this got released yesterday and I finally got a chance to see it after it's "theatrical run":

IPB Image

I loved it. My only criticism would probably be the ending, which was too sweet and predictable for a satire like this; although that may just be a reflection of Mike Judge's sensibilities. It seems like even though most of Judge's work mocks low-brow-white-trash-redneck culture (aside from office space, which ultimately ends up embracing a blue collar life), he still has a soft spot and appreciation for it. I guess its his own artistic struggle to condemn monster truck rallies; or sit back, drink a beer, and just enjoy it for what it is.

I loved the portrayal of the future Fox News - I'm guessing that didn't go over well with the studio.
