I'd love to see a remake this movie with the exact same script, set in the exact same time period, with sets, props & costumes just slightly updated, but with A & B list actors in all the roles.
I guess there has been rumors of a remake since the late 90's--with David Zucker as the Producer/Director. If that's the case--that Zucker is the would be producer/director--I think I would have to skip the remake; you would probably see Dropo stick a dildo in a light socket...Also, man, I saw a performance of Santa Clause conquers the Martians with puppets a while back; it was the craziest thing I have ever seen...
Zucker's still attached to the possible remake/sequel, supposedly there's also a spec script floating around written by BBC Weatherman Chris Fawkes?
A Stage Musical version was put on in OC last year. I think the time's right for a remake.
[EDIT]
"Santa Clause Conquers the Martians, the Musical" Returns to the Maverick Theater for Christmas! I'm already planning on going.

I'll play, but I think the only way this can be done is with a combination of A, B and C...
Abigail Breslin-the girl
Freddie Highmore--the boy
Emmanuel Lewis--the Martian boy
Traci Lords--the Martian girl
Will Ferrell--Dropo
Tommy Lee Jones--the bad Martian
Patrick Swayze--the Martian leader
Laura Linney--the Martian mom
Santa Claus--John Goodman
Mrs. Claus--Roseanne
I was definitely thinking Will Ferrell, too, but as Kimar instead. Maybe just taking the cast of
The Ron Burgundy Story and dropping them into this, or is that too high concept?
Here's the entire thing from Archive.org.
