finally caught Hot Fuzz yesterday. first off, why didn't anyone tell me the theater up by logan square was only $3?
second, that movie is hysterical. i need to watch it again when i'm not fucking hungover and deprived of basic nutrition so i can understand what those limeys are saying. the priest shouting "jesus christ!" after he got shot was hysterical.
I did this today. Thanks for informing me of this place, Kmac. Three dollars... my kind of price.
And yeah, this thing completely exceeded my fairly high expectations. Brilliant stuff.

It's weird that this is from the same director of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Brokeback Mountain. It's awesome that he challenges himself in every film...what is Ang Lee up to nowadays, anyway?

Amores Perros by Alejandro González Iñárritu
i don't like Inarittu. he's using the same trick over and over. and that trick is boring, overdramatic, and predictable. the only part of the film i liked was about that model who lost her leg. the other two stories were pretty weak.
Fat Girl by Catherine Breillat
boring. the whole adolescent sexuality thing was crap and the ending was even worse. way to not being able to make an interesting film and only have a shocking ending for the sake of people going "whoa! that was unexpected, wasn't it?".

Right there with ya. Great fun from start to finish.
Gotta love Tim Robbins' eager-beaver smile when he first arrives on the scene. It totally sets the tone of the film from that moment forward.
And, of course, Bill Campbell zings thru a criminally underused role.
And who'd've ever thunk Paul Newman would be so good (let alone interested) in playing such a dark, comic role?

What can I say about this movie? I love it. My parents took me to see it in the theatre, I was ten years old at the time. It scared the living shit out of me and left a lasting impression. I finally picked up my own dvd copy of it and watched it this morning when I woke up. It still carries a lot of meaning, emotion and psychological depth to it.

In a nutshell:

- Still pretty damn funny. Andy Kaufman + Christopher Lloyd + Danny DeVito = hilarious.

- Not as funny as I remember. Ah well. Richard Moll + John Larroquette steal the show.

- Funnier than I was led to believe.

- Much better than I had hoped. Great fun! The Doctor is IN!

- Gripping drama with a great cast. Meet the original inspiration for James Bond.

Torless is this young dude (he's in the picture above) who goes to a boys school. He and his friends torment another schoolmate for his theft and in the end Torless leaves them cos he realizes that they're all nazis and it's all bullshit.
Notre Musique by Jean-Luc Godard
surprisingly fairly straightforward film for the late Godard kind of cinema. i rather enjoyed it. he's discussing the similar themes that he used in other films like violence, arts, mortality, morality in his own peculiar Godardian way.
