One of my all time faves.

What was that great exchange...

"I killed a girl, it was no accident. Put a gun to the back of her head and blew her brains right out the front. I was in love."
"I strangled mine."
"Did you love her???"
"She was okay!"

Pirates 3 was a thrill ride to say the least. It does set out to outdo Peter Jackson's Reurn of The King to tie up loose ends, settle old scores and give everyone their final dues. The scene with Jack Sparrow confronting himself in the desert is perhaps the most avant-garde cinematic moment ever devised by Disney or Jerry Bruckheimer. For its sheer ridiculousness and vision, this will land in my top 10 films of the year (not that I will be able to see that many).

EDIT: I cannot end this mini-review without mentioning that Keira Knightly is the sexiest woman alive.

It's kind of ironic that for a movie about censorship, the original nude image was altered by digitally draping cloths over the Chicks.

I haven't seen the movie, but I did see the hour+ interview that Howard Stern conducted with them on the subject. It was very compelling stuff (but then again, I love just about every Stern interview).

It was pretty interesting actually, and I'm not even a fan. The Chicks weren't too whiny either considering they'd received multiple death threats.

Natalie wore a shirt that said F.U.T.K. in reaction to some ignorant shit that Toby Keith said (big surprise).

There was a great scene with the DCs listening to an early mix of a song in Rick Rubin's house. The guy's such a nut. I'm convinced that he's the biggest "yes" man is the music industry.

Saw this over the weekend, and it was good to very good. Not great by any means.

But Jackie Earle Haley is incredible in the movie. The character's introduction is a doozy, and one of the best of recent years.

i'm certainly curious to see how the movie is
do they talk about the "1st Amendment" a lot in the film?

i understand, it's out of line that people sent them death threats, but in interviews i saw, it seems the Dixie Chicks are confused about "freedom of speech." Congress did not pass any law saying they can't bash the Pres. but the Chicks feel that they can say whatever they want, while in reality- you have to deal w/ the consequences of what you say.

disappointing. it certainly had some great moments, but when one of the 2 main characters is almost entirely unredeeming it makes for an awkward romantic comedy. you don't want them to end up together.

No they don't discuss the First Amendment in any depth. They make reference to it, but that's about it.
Might have been interesting if they had included a bit more of the legal perspective.

just saw "oceans 13". (it wasn't voluntarily!!!) wasn't bad. had a few good jokes to which only 4 people in the audience responded. by the way, does anyone know if that big casino they had in the film is real?

According to the spot on HBO, it was a massive set. The crew felt that they should operate it as a casino to recoup some of the production costs.

Couldn't sleep at 3:30 a.m. & this was on. I really liked it:

I haven't seen this one yet. I thought the first was seriously too long. There were 3 or 4 points where it could have finished and yet they kept carrying it on longer. The second suffers from that same unbearable timing and the fact that it ended the way it did suggests that they'd planned for the third one all along so long as the sequel made it's budget back. Not really thrilled by these that much at all.

So, I finally got around to this. Still stewing in a mixed reaction. On the one hand, Big Boi was a much better actor than I'd anticipated, and Andre acquits himself nicely as ever. There's a lot of spectacularly creative touches, especially some cool animation techniques that somehow don't feel out of place, given the overall whimsical pastiche that's going on. Sadly, it's all scattered across a story that seems cobbled together from about ten different better movies. Terrence Howard gives his usual stellar turn, but it's not enough to make this something I'd recommend. Still, it's easy to see how someone could enjoy this.
