Great film.

SIMILARLY,

2001: A 16-year-old closet goth Typical Pickle Conflicts, having grown up without parents who listen to music, cool older siblings, or a solid support base of indie rock friends, hears "Love Will Tear Us Apart" in possibly rightfully forgotten reality TV satire Series 7: The Contenders and thinks "my god this is the most beautiful song ever written"

2001, A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER: A 16-year-old closet goth Typical Pickle Conflicts downloads 43 kb .wma file of "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and thinks "this doesn't really sound as good as I remembered it"

September 11, 2001: The tragic events of 9/11 shatter a nation

THEN SOME OTHER STUFF HAPPENED, I REALIZED I WASN'T THAT COMMITTED TO DOING A TIMELINE

August 10, 2007: Tony Wilson DIES, eerily so does the spindle thing for Disc 3 of Typical Pickle Conflicts' personal copy of the Heart and Soul box set

August 12, 2007: Carrier notified to pick up package

August 14, 2007: FOREST PARK IL US In transit

August 15, 2007: Arrival scan

I'm pretty sure no other movie has resulted in me spending more money and not just because I left one copy of the DVD in a different state and had to rebuy it. Not a bad flick would watch another million times A+.

The Gooch

An absolutely awesome documentary. The movie collects expert interview subjects, some of no less a quality then Dick Armitage and General Jay Garner (no bleeding heart liberals they). It's a devastating and depressing look into the folly that is the Bush Administration.

Ha, what about Forest Park? lol

That's where the video store was that closed down and enabled my family to take hold of the Netflix advantage, amazingly enough.

I think there's a UPS station there and when you check your tracking number online it always says "FOREST PARK IL US In transit" right before it arrives at your door step.

Jabberwocky. i didn't like it that much. it's in his "cartoon" style. there's no mixing with a normal filmed structured narrative, like he did in "Sileni". that's the only other film that I saw by him, so i can't really comment that much.

i really like the first par of "Pierrot le Fou", up until the point where he escapes with Karina. the party scene and his work with color in it is really cool. from that point it on gets very bizzare, and it's only when i read some explanations and comments on "what, when and why" about the film that's when i began to appreciate it much more.

Histoire de Marie et Julien by Jacques Rivette
a story about dead people coming into the lives of living people.
mysticism mixed with some romanticisms and some sort of detective plot. the film itself wasn't that great. but if it was based on a book, i'd imagine it could have been an interesting read. reminded me of some cortazar's short story.

The only Potter film I hadn't seen. Somehow managed to skip it. One of my favorite books, too.

Watched it tonight and thought that it was quite good. There was a lot of silly, awesome-for-the-sake-of-being-awesome special effects type stuff in here, much like in the latest film. But unlike in that one, this film didn't feel particularly engulfed in those sorts of things. They were directed and presented in very artful, satisfying-to-watch ways. I especially liked the look of the scenes where Harry leaves the Dursleys and walks around outside and eventually gets on a bus and goes to some place where that bald guy and the Minister of Magic are and all that shit. The movie felt really video game-ish, but so did the latest movie and hell, so do the books. It was good shit.

Call me late to the party. This film came out in 1991 and apparently was generation-defining for my generation. I popped it in around midnight tonight (never having seen it before) and need to rewatch a few times before returning it. It's like the Gen X Easy Rider.

Look, I appreciate when an actor takes a chance on an affectation or two for a character. But holy f did that marble-mouthed fuck ruin an otherwise half-assed b-movie.

Also, does David Morse ever get to play either the worst guy on earth or the sweetest? There has to be some middle ground that guy can handle.

Some cool new stuff added, like the way Lois figures out Clark is Superman. Her jumping out the window, at the Daily Planet. Then later shooting Clark. The added scenes w/Brando helps the movie make more sense.

I think what makes it so much more satisfying is that the magic is presented so matter-of-factly thanks to Alfonso Cuaron's direction. Check out the part after that that scene you described, when Harry goes into the kitchen, how the dishes fly off the table and the chairs flip themselves over but like it's an everyday occurence (which it would be). With Chris Columbus directing, you would get that stuff center-screen, with John Williams' musical flourishes and a cut to Harry's awed face, almost jabbing us in the ribs saying "Look at that! It's magic! Oh WOW!" wink.gif

You also gotta love the running gag with the Whomping Willow as the seasons change. Really the best of the film series.

Frank Tashlin's crazed, Freudian satire of advertising, the media and 1950s values. Jayne Mansfield is a hoot. Everything about this movie (except for a ad exec who dreams of becoming a horticulturist) is fake and ironic. Don't miss it.

"It Happened One Night", with Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert.
One of the great classics of American cinema. Sexy and smart and funny. The blueprint for The Romantic Comedy as we know it, it well deserved the 5 Oscars it earned.

Mos def was really good and its not often enough that I'd add that to a supporting role.
See him in: 'Hitchikers Guide' & 'Something the Lord Has Made'. To be honest I'm not big on checking the works of richard donner and I found mos refreshing considering the lesser amount of performances that usually come out of these flicks.. I agree with you about morse's picks. He'd be great if he could take a step away
from the two-step performances and expand on the idea of expressing a little more. It is a disappointment to see him in the forever a bad guy mode.
