I think Donnie Darko was gettin' it from the "Knights' Tale" guy. I don't really remember. I might just be assuming that because the latter had bigger sideburns and a lower voice.
Undercooked Sausage
I would've thought the other way around. That sorta sucks.

John Cusack went to my high school for a while, but he got kicked out for smoking pot or something.

I actually think lately that this movie is his best one because the french chick is adorable whereas the bitch from high fidelity was a bitch whore and the broad from Say Anything as GDB pointed out is just whiny and a daddys girl.

also, those suicide attempts are just priceless.

EDIT: IT"S JOHN CUSACKS PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN, LOL MONTANA 2 THRED

He was awesome in "Sixteen Candles." Joan was in that, too. Bit parts, yes, but fun as hell.

I actually bought the brat pack collection they peddle at best buy (Sixteen candles, Wierd Science, and Breakfast Club) and it was so worth it.

Pretty In Pink didn't count. It was basically a Molly Ringwald vehicle, and it lacked the energy of the other films.

The Brat Pack collection only has the John Hughes movies that he did for Universal. Pretty in Pink was Paramount.

I swear, the personnel involved in this production is unreal. Robert Vaughn, James Cameron, Gale Anne Hurd, Darlene Fluegel, George Peppard, James Horner, John Sayles... it's really stunning just who's behind the scenes here. However, this is a terrible film (the hero's spaceship has tits, for God's sake), one I vaguely recall seeing in the theater when I was like, 9. Which is really the only reason I watched it today : it was on the tube, I had the day off, and I needed a "good nap" movie to drift in and out of. This certainly qualifies. I might have to rent it just to hear Gale Anne Hurd's commentary... laugh.gif

Dafoe looked miserable up there. jody foster needs to hang it up. clive owen was maybe the boringest bank robber ever. and, man, could the action sequences have been any lamer? spike really puzzles me. he's made maybe three great movies, and like 8 just absolutely crap films. dude is the black woody allen like that or something.

I thought Owen being boring was part of the overall conception. Nothing Inside so to speak. You have to love how Lee undercut the genre by having one seemingly unrelated vignette and aside after another. And the damn thing ends on one awesome anti-climax. 25th Hour is one of his great films right?
Ben

Movies like that usually end with a flurry of gunfights. Undercutting audience expectation is a good thing. that said IM wasn't a patch on something like Dog Day Afternoon.

It's an appropriate term for an intriguingly ambiguous ending. "Limbo" and "A History of Violence" are two good off-the-top-of-my-head examples of this.
Ben
Well History of Violence does have a climax (William Hurt gunfight). And Limbo is just about 800 times better than Inside Man.

Inside is a poorly formed turd. Lee didn't undercut the genre, he made a hack swipe at it. Because it's complicated I'm supposed to swoon (but then there are the reeeeeally lame plot holes). That Jody Foster character is one of the flattest thing I've seen on screen in forever. And the Nazi banker, omg, my expectations were really undercut there. BOOOOOOORING. Bank robbery movies got to go. Stupid over-stylized 'tweener' characters got to go. Spike Lee needs to get his game back. This reeks of studio compromise.

Per usual, Anthony Lane is right and Tony is wrong.

I prefer Lee when he's under the studio straitjacket (25th hour, Inside Man) then when stinking up the joint with 'personal' projects like Bamboozled.

Wow, what a fucking moron. Treadwell was like a character from a Mr. Show documentary-style sketch. The best part was when the fox stole his hat.

"What are you doing to that hat? Where's that hat going? Hey, who's stealing that hat? Let me see that hat. Ghost, I want that hat. Man! Ghost is bad. Ghost, what are you doing with that hat? Ghost, that hat is a very important hat. Drop it! Hey! Oh, goddamn it! I can't believe this! Ghost! Ghost, where's that fucking hat? That hat is so frigging valuable for this trip. Ghost, you come back here with that friggin' hat. If it's in the den, I'm gonna fucking explode. Ghost, where's that hat? It's not okay for you to steal it. Aw, man! Aw, man! It's a friggin' den."

Also, Spike Lee has made many bad movies. Why, I can't really say. I wish he'd stop doing it though, and I will not rationalize away this latest boring ass stab at cool. If "She Hate Me" proved anything, it's that Spike don't know cool anymore.

75% worse is closer to the bill. Did 25th Hour not have enough 'plot' for you? It was rare to see a film with such a elegiac mournful tone come out of the Big Studios. I never would have thought Lee had it in him.

This was fairly disappointing. I'm inclined to believe that this was nominated for an Oscar for best foreign film more because of its relevance to the current Israel-Palestine conflict than actually being a good movie. I found the characters grossly underdeveloped and the story very plain-vanilla. I would have liked to have heard the human side/voice of these suicide bombers - instead we just watch their actions. The final 30 minutes turned into an action/buddy drama that didn't hold my interest at all. At that point, I couldn't have cared less how the movie was actually going to end.
