Breaking Bad on AMC.

Not a film, but it could be. First episode has me hooked. Fucking television.

I caught that too. Very good stuff. I like the main character and it's nice to see that Bryan Cranston is once again employed.

is it good? i was debating on watching it. given mad men's excellence i wanted to assume this would be equally excellent, and i do love me some bryan cranston. but the ads for it left me blah about it.

It's solid. I was pleased that it wasn't gung ho craziness from the start as the commercials were building it up. Cranston is one of the best for playing mania, but you've still got to earn it. Breaking Bad does.
bleach

holds up really well. very few moments of cheese for a mid 80's movie due to filmmaker's reverence towards the sport of wrestling. inspiring performance by mathew modine to say the least.

Most overrated pic I began to watch. I say "began to" because our copy from the library was scratched about 45 minutes in, and we ultimately didn't care.

Killer of Sheep: Gorgeous film. In 1973, Charles Burnett, than a film school student, sought to make a film for class that reflected life in his neighbourhood, not exploited it. The result is pretty much a plotless wandering through day to day life at a specific time in a specific place.

The Outlaw Josey Wales: Fun seventies Eastwood-directed western. I liked the way that Wales tries to be this loner outlaw but his good nature means that he keeps accumulating friends and travelling companions to the extent that, at one point, he has another man, three women, a dog, and a multitude of horses and longhorns with him.

I'm a touch peeved that I missed the TMC run of these recent Burnett releases. They showed all of these earlier in the week. I still haven't seen any of the early works that Rosenbaum's been ranting about for years. I'll just end up renting them one of these days.

They actually nailed it. In spirit, this is about as close one can get to Cooke's masterwork without reading the book.

Though I did feel some of the voice acting was a little uneven. Clearly, they wanted to differentiate from the various era icons.

Goddamn, Barry Allen as the Flash. That's all I needed to be happy.

edit: Not enough Challengers of the Unknown. Not nearly enough.

This was just GREAT. One of the best movies I've seen for a long time, and I watch a lot of movies.

The lead is a little person who has been relocated to a new town, who befriends two other awkward and lonely people. Really well done.

Michael Clayton: Guh? I thought this was supposed to be a middle-of-the-road legal drama? A safe movie to nominate by the Academy that isn't great, isn't bad, just okay (like The Queen last year)? Because it's not really, it's just really good. And since when did they start making movies like this but look so good? There's some pretty gorgeous cinematography. And George Clooney is good! There's a part where some asshole rich client calls him out and Clooney doesn't respond, but there's a little twitch by his eye and it's great. Also, as much as I love Javier Bardem, Tom Wilkinson is REALLY good here. As great as Barden is throught NCFOM, the scene of Wilkinson walking down the sidewalk in NYC with a look of elation and complete clarity on his face might be the acting performance of the year. That's 4 of the 5 BP nominees down, and I enjoyed every one of them. Just waiting on TWBB to show up here.

Yes and Yes! I was just saying to a friend less than an hour ago that it's subtle and a creeper, but still powerful. Is the lead character the same person from the U2 video for "All I Want Is You"?

It's a really fun movie.

Not all of it is perfect. NF is so massive and complex. There is only so much one can do in 90 minutes.

Strong focus on Hal Jordan/J'onn J'onzz. Including that wonderful sequence of the Manhunter watching Bug Bunny and Gracho.

Watched the movie last night for the first time in probably 20 years--it looked & sounded amazing. Then I got to borrow the whole deal so I can check out the photos, script & special features (which unfortunately don't include commentary by anyone, but apparently there are a couple of documentaries).

Viggo is fuckin' awesome as "the driver". (the ladies will appreciate frame-by-frame modes on their DVD player for the infamous Turkish bath fight scene)
