[*]Not one mention of Nathan Roberts. He's on the list of "past Lips members" in the credits, sure, but there's no mention of him in the movie. He was in the damn band for a good two albums. What the hell?
[*]Who the hell is that guy playing drums? His name is weird. Keilph or something. Kleiph maybe? He's playing just like Steven! He has Steven's haircut, too! WHY??? WHY DOESN'T STEVEN DROZD JUST PLAY THE DAMN DRUMS??????? HE'S ONE OF THE GREATEST DRUMMERS EVER! I'm pissed off at this band for absolutely refusing to kick ass.

Read Dero's book, dude. He attempted to interview Nathan R., but was refused in all attempts. Obviously he wants nothing to do with this part of his past ever again, so they may have followed his wishes to have not been mentioned further than that.

Kliph Spurlock (love that name, sounds like an evil professor in a Marvel Comic smile.gif ) plays drums for Steven on the road so he can jump around playing the other instruments and the DAT tapes.

See if you can invest in the deluxe edition, which includes the 5-hour television miniseries as Bergman intended it. The Christmas dinner is longer, there's a few extra monologues which better flesh out some of the characters, plus a couple eerie fantasy sequences. You also get the neat feature-length 'behind the scenes' documentary.

(birdistheword was kind enough to point out that deepdiscountdvd.com sells it, and other Criterion DVDs, for nearly 50% off the retail price.)

Well, considering that Henson spent most of his career with his hand up the ass of beloved children's characters, you skate on this one.

Two Weeks Notice. Having satellite tv and/or cable almost guarantees you'll be able to catch up on every average romantic comedy you ever missed. This one isn't unbearable. Nor is it particuarly surprising. In fact, it's kinda nice. Nice in that nothing special sorta way but there's some banter and that's always fun for mindless entertainment.

Mr Show

Only watched the first episode, which was kinda hit-and-miss. Especially since I've seen Run Ronnie Run and that was equally hit-and-miss. But I like David Cross, and let's just see how this develops.
Pavement Ist Rad
Keep watching. You will come out of it a changed man. Trust me.

Oh, and "Run Ronnie Run" is a piece of shit. The Ronnie Dobbs character isn't very funny. He's hardly worth being the focus of a half hour of television, let alone a whole movie. I understand why you wouldn't completely dig the first episode because half the damn thing is RONNIE DOBBS. Don't worry, though. He only shows up once more in the TV series, and that's in season 3. This show is brilliant.

I need to go watch every episode now.

Oh, and wasn't "Change for a Dollar" just hilarious?

Actually, yes. That was the high point of the first episode. For some reason, I think I've been in that store at least once...
Paul
Mr. Show really picks up after the first few episodes. Not that they're not enjoyable, but the combination of them figuring out the pacing and you as the viewer getting used to it makes things even funnier.
Pavement Ist Rad
Wait until you get to season five. As David says of the final episode, "We out-geniused ourselves."

"Like Chickens... Delicious Chickens" is the best Mr. Show episode ever, by the way. "Bugged Drug Deal," "Charles McHutchence vs. Harrison Greely III," "Description of the Lion's Roar," "2000 Pound Old Man," "World's Oldest News Team," "Civil War: The Re-Enactments"... non-stop brilliance! Gee.

Oldboy is my favorite film released theatrically in 2005 (it's also my second favorite film released on DVD in 2004).

I showed the whole trilogy at my last film festival. Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance, Old Boy and the Midwest Premiere of Sympathy for Lady Vengeance all played on consecutive midnights.

Now here's a little story that won't mean jack to anyone today.
Before DVD, this one wasn't readily available here in the states.
I got my copy from a buddy who's friends with Rosenbaum. He in turn got it from Scorsese's projectionist. My guess is he struck the copy directly from Scorsese's print who probably scored it from Powell himself. S'funny how hardcore this was all but a decade ago. Once it's available it doesn't mean much anymore. rolleyes.gif

Ahhh man. 'Lady Vengeance' was on like three times in the last week! I didn't put it together that this was also directed by Park. Oh well. I'll catch it one of these days.

I always compare the Vengeance Trilogy to Goodfellas/Casino. None of the characters are the same (although some of the actors are), but they're linked thematically, and created on purpose that way as three films that explore the same theme.

Oh come on...if you asked 10 random people if they'd even heard of this film, 9 out of 10 would say "no". Unfortunate, because it's not like it's not accessible (Fellini-esque)- the acting is superb; the characters are people that are easy to relate to; the story is smart and compelling but easy to follow; and most of all there are many moments of true tenderness. It has all the ingredients of, at least, a "Best Years of Our Lives."

I watched this with my parents! Ha! Anyways, I never realized just how fucked up Dee Dee Ramone was. Yeah, I knew he was a junkie and all, but I had never read his books, heard his solo albums, seen an interview with him, etc. My only experience with seeing Dee Dee "in action" was the scene in "Rock 'N Roll High School" where you see him giving PJ Soles a really terrified/pissed off look for a good 10 seconds or so. But, yeah, the guy could barely talk! Sad, really. And he does sound like a cartoon moose when he raps.

Eh, pretty disappointing for a Pixar movie. Predictable story (even for this type of movie), boring by-the-books unlikable characters, way too many cheesy moments, and shitty music (when did Pixar become Dreamworks? There were 2-3 instances of a random pop song inserted in a random scene. Fucking Sheryl Crow and Life Is A Highway!).

Also felt it could've been a lot funnier--they didn't mine the car aspect as much as they could have Technically great though. There were times when I thought they filmed a live background. The credits were very funny too
