Worst that I paid to see (it wasn't my choice, BTW)--
The Haunted Mansion . WTF was Eddie Murphy thinking!?
[attachmentid=96]

From free screenings--
Let's Talk About Sex and Last Kiss(can't remember the exact title) --2 indy crapola movies. First was a "women's picture" about a moviemaker who tries to make a documentary about sex, while she and her buddies can't seem to get any/enough. Last Kiss was that controversial mess about a woman working in a funeral home who gets spiritual epiphanies by having sex with corpses wacko.gif .

My bad movie radar has really improved over the years, so I've been doing good for awhile. I usually catch shitty films on DVD or cable and it just reinforces this.

The horror. Eric Clapton tune playing during the opening credits, showing a scene of a cute puppy playing on a tire swing - and I actually heard people in the audience go "awww". It was all downhill after that. So many people will burn in hell for contributing to that experience.

At least I had the sense to walk out of the Oliver Stone movie.

sad.gif . Sure it's a stupid movie, but not bad with a capital B! rolleyes.gif

People who hate the movie should rent it and watch with the self-deprecatory commentary track with Weird Al, the director Jay Levy and guest appearances by Emo Phillips, Victoria Jackson Michael Richards. Fun!

At least the fourteen minutes I was awake through were horrible. Seriously, the guy in the row behind us snoring woke me and my girlfriend both up at one point. The only reason we stayed through the whole movie was to sleep in the air conditioned theater on a 100 degree plus summer day.

Saw this in a packed theater during an advanced screening with some co-workers.

We all were howling at how much the audience was into this awful film. People actually cheered when they finally killed the bear.

Ugh.

Didn't see that one at a theatre, but rented it one night. Ouch. Speaking of Cosby, I remember going to see Ghost Dad when I was 6 or 7. I thought that was bad. I remember people walking out of that one. My one sister told me she went to see Showgirls with friends. The theatre was crowded when they got there, but by the time it was over her and her friends were the only ones left.

I saw Showgirls opening night at the old CoEd on Green Street in Champaign, one of the most fun nights I've ever had at the movies. It was like watching MST3K with one hundred really, really drunk robots. Awesome.

Didn't claim you were. Don't deny its complete hyperbole though. If those are the worst films you've ever seen in a theater you must be quite studious about your theater going. smile.gif Anyway to contribute to this discussion myself...

Five minutes in, it was obvious how horrible this was gonna be so we ducked out and caught something else.

The worst movie I ever sat through in its entirety was probably Bill & Ted's Bogus Adventure.

Worst film? Titanic might have been a bore but it was hardly the worst I've ever seen. I went alone to see 'Showgirls'. To embarrassed to be seen in public going to that one. Awful, awful script for a mediocre if not haphazard attempt of 'All About Eve' which is only really compariable in passing.

There's been several films that I've paid to see in the theatre that I didn't care for but not many that were outright crap. Only one really sticks out in a major way:

IPB Image This one kinda spells out that it was gonna be crap from the get go and I believe it fell on the coat tails of the 'Lost Boys' and the beloved "Corey's" moment of fame circa 86'. I'd say 'Career Opportunities' was equally as awful but watching Jennifer Connelly
seemed to make up for the nearly non-existant plot.

I had a similar situation post high school. Bunch of the guys wanted to see 'Demolition Man' with Stallone & Snipes. (I wish I could forget about that one too) Only one other friend had any appreciation for something more interesting. We were trying to suggest going to see a foreign film but no one would take us up on it.

We've only walked out of two movies that I can recall - 'The Ref' and 'Match Point' (a week ago or so)...I don't remember why we walked out of 'The Ref' (we were still teenagers so it could've been to go smoke one-hitters in the parking lot) but 'Match Point' made me angry it was so unwatchable.

And I caught a matinee of 'Grizzly Man' back in August and thought it was a mock-u-mentary...I laughed as hard as I have at any comedy...easily the most confusingly labelled 'great piece of filmic art' in a long, long time.

I do realize, of course, that my taste in film is forever invalidated by the Batman & Robin post above.

I can't quite crap on Batman and Robin--it's certainly not as good as the first one, but it did have some decent moments. It was Batman Forever that may win as all-time worst superhero flick, beating out even Superman 4. My girlfriend at the time liked it. I should have known she was nuts at that point.

I do realize, of course, that my taste in film is forever invalidated by the Batman & Robin post above.

Agree- The Edge was fairly compelling.

It would be too easy to go with some horrible flick I saw as a kid, like Xanadu. But I probably enjoyed it at the time.
The movie that pissed me off and insulted my intelligence more than any other was John Singleton's Higher Learning. I've never hated a movie more, but I wasn't bored or annoyed enough to leave the theater- that honor goes to Twin Peaks- Fire Walk With Me or Robin William's Toys.

GM is supposed to be funny. And as an editing job of found footage that's put together for maximum dramatic impact and also tying into Herzog's themes it's pretty great stuff. What didn't you like about MP? It was so tightly plotted...not a moment wasted.
Mitchell
I liked Match Point too, much better than Melinda and Melinda.
Seamus
Speaking of Herzog, I just read in Entertaiment Weekly that he was struck by a rubber bullet, or something, recently while giving an interview with the BBC but just kind of shook it off and kept talking. I believe his quote was ""It was not a significant bullet. I am not afraid". He also, apparently, was the one to pull Joaquin Phoenix from the wreckage of Mr. Phoenix's recent car crash.

I don't know if it was supposed to be as funny as I found it, maybe? I mean...that movie had me howling with laughter...and it only got worse when the dude (finally, thank God) got eaten by a damned bear.

Anyway, with regard to Match Point...what, specifically, didn't I like about it? I couldn't nail anything down, I suppose (I left 20 minutes into the borefest)...off the top of my head I'd offer the following about why it was unbearable:

- the male lead (my wife recognized him from Velvet Goldmine and said, "Aw, sh*t! It's that idiot from Velvet Goldmine!") - he was wooden...
- the dialogue: ordinarily a Woody Allen strength, right? For twenty minutes I suffered through rich white people making plans about making plans, using language nobody this side of Anne of Green Gables uses and saying laugh-out-loud crap about car collections and the "oh-per-ah".
- the one dude's sister's tits - one minute they're harnassed in a bra, the next the flapping around like a squirrel's tail...again, it prompted my wife to remark on them

I only suffered through only 20 minutes of the above and we grabbed our coats...
Tony
The plot doesn't even get started until a half hour into it so you missed everything.
Mitchell
Rich tossers talk that in this country. Language = spot on. It was a little slow getting going but if you'd stayed to the end you might have realised that it was actually a thriller above anything else.
