It was released in the US in February. Eligible?
That sounds sketchy.

Malajube came out in the US last month. Final Fantasy has grown on me nicely, what a kooky little album. Though the artwork creeps me out, I have to keep the CD buried another CD, it's like those stupid eyes follow me. It won't be anywhere near my top 30, but Pallett's Polaris victory was certainly well-deserved.

I have to say, I honestly wasn't all that into Silver. In fact, I wasn't as into the first Jesu record as I really should have been. That album was a strange one, wasn't it? It could have passed as one of those nice little shoegazey doom records, but there was just so much Swans-ish grinding guitar noise! I felt torn between the two sides of the record's sound, you know? If I tried to hear it as some sort of apocalyptic steamroller of death, I was distracted by how sissyish it sounded. And if I tried to hear it as "nice-metal," well, the not so nice elements were kind of off-putting. And as P-fork pointed out in their review, Silver sounds like Jawbreaker. Not that there's anything wrong with Jawbreaker. Eh???

I'd like to submit a list for this year, but I have the same problem as last year. There's plenty of records on my "to-do" list that I haven't gotten to and even if I downloaded or bought them all tomorrow, would they really have time to sink in? I've had Ys for a while and I can't think of a day where I was in the mood to hear it. I've probably sat down and listened to the whole thing twice and it didn't blow me away. But Milk-Eyed Mender annoyed me and a year later, I really liked a lot of it. I haven't heard the entire albums put out by Liars and Sunset Rubdown, but I gave them a listen when Iw as at record stores. Do I blame those records for not being immediate enough or do I dismiss them for not sinking their teeth into me? I'm just now catching up to Scott Walker and Swan Lake and I'm checking out the MySpace pages for bands like The Annuals to decide whether or not I want to hear more from them. IT'S TOO MUCH PRESSURE I'M GONNA STAY UP ALL NITE TONIGHT LISTENING TO RECORDS I GOT SOME PILLS TO HELP ME STAY UP LATE I'M SOOOOOO EXCITED...I'M SOOOOOO EXCITED....I'M SO....SCARED

Haha. Alright first of all people need to separate themselves from this mentality that "number of posts on this board = value of person's opinion". I mean I've been browsing around here enough (a phat 4 days) to know that there are morons with thousands of posts and interesting opinions coming from noobs and vice versa. And I'm guessing (just guessing) that there are people who have never even posted once on this board who know way more about music than anyone on here... so get over yourself.
Second of all, you clearly have decent taste in music as per the name-dropping of Neutral Milk Hotel, Band of Horses, Tom Waits, Decemberists.. (I still can't figure out if I like Antony and the Johnsons... sometimes I love that album and some days I find it unlistenable).
But you can't grant me one barb at your ranking of White Pony as the top album of 1995-2004? I mean you tell me that my favorite album of 2006 flat-out "sucks", and I don't get to dish out anything in return? Just seems unfair.
Guess I should have looked at your number of posts and backed away slowly with my tail between my legs. Obviously your opinoins are, uh, well... they've been well documented on this board anyway! And for that you should be very proud.
And I wouldn't have said anything about White Pony had I not listened to it... that would make no sense. Actually, when listened to in the right mood, that album is pretty sweet. Definitey among the better examples of hard rock circa late 90s/early aughts. I went through a period where Change (In the House of Flies) was near the top of my playlist for awhile actually, though I won't claim to be a Deftones expert or have become intimately associated with that album in any way... I'm just saying I could ramble off about 100 other albums that have been released in the past 10 years that are like exponentially better/more interesting on a number of levels (um, yes, including all three of those radiohead albums).
I don't really see the connection between the three radiohead albums at the top and Newsom at the top... other than that you seem to dislike both of them for some reason.

Very interesting list, dude. I'm beginning to think that Band of Horses is going to have a great showing on this list. There doesn't seem to be much "anti-band of horses-ism" from anyone. Definitely a solid album, but it seems a bit overrated by most people, seeing how despite its goodness it's still a pretty conventional rock album.
Nice to see the massively underrated new strokes album finally get a vote. I left it off my list, but I don't really understand why there was so much backlash against this disc.

OK, it's just on the countdown when White Pony placed Dr Bill seemed to be taking a piss of me but since it was Dr Bill and he does all the work I laughed it off. A few days later he actually dl'd the album and admitted it was good. Deftones seem to be (yes I'm biased) a band that gets dissed more by people that have never even heard them more often then anyone.

Can I lift it in the
night?
White undersides of my thighs look much betterIn
the dark light
There’s a kid in there

One of the many factors that could potentially make these lists innacurate. I've seen some people argue that albums that have had more time to 'sink in' have more of an advantage, though.
Considering that my two favorite albums this year (by a very wide margin over anything else) are Ys and Return to Cookie Mountain, one of which I've been listening to virtually nonstop for two weeks and the other of which I've listened to like... infinity times over the course of the past several months, I feel like the quality of the album outweighs any other factors. I'm just guessing it's probably like that for most other people as well. Most people on this board seem to be knowledgeable enough and serious enough about music that they're not gonna get wrapped up in the excitement of an album's 'newness' and overlook something that they equally or more excited about a couple months ago.
Everything All the Time and Crane Wife also have the handicap of not being as good as Ys, which may set them back a bit (though actually considering all the anti-newsomites around here, I would expect both of those albums to place higher than Ys).

I also feel that Joanna Newsomes record is gonna place more because of the right place at the right time. Meaning it is a newer record so people are in LOVE with it at this moment. They've burnt themselves out on Band of Horses and Decemberists etc so those albums which I feel are better are sliding down in peoples polls due to the fact they don't seem new anymore.[/b]
In this post, you're basically calling everyone stupid.
No. Just people who actually like that crappy Joanna Newsome album.

I've burnt myself out completely on my #1 album, but it's still my #1 album. I didn't forget that moment as it was drawing to a close where I thought "wow, this is a fucking great piece of music."

I'm looking forward to being a part of this. I wasn't around last year, so this will be my first SOMB list.
But I'll be waiting until near the last minute to make my list. I have a rough top five in my head, but it's all jumbled as far as positions... two of the records came out within the last month (one of them this week), so I'm still soaking them in.

Why do you prefer The Futureheads to the Arctic Monkeys by that large a margin?

I'm kind of surprised not to see the Islands LP on more lists. I wasn't around when it came out, whats the board's general opinion on it?

I thought the Islands album was terrible bar two good tracks but that's probably just me, I think it's almost certain to place in the top 50 overall.

Number 5 on my list. 100 plays of
Swans makes me always remember it. There are probably a couple of reasons people wouldn't like it:
1.) They liked The Unicorns better
2.) It didn't age well - and they simply forgot about it. That happened with me and Figurines, but I'm putting them back up where they belong.
