The Grandaddy and Sparklehorse are not as good as previous efforts, but both are good records that are late bloomers. It takes many spins for them to have their proper effect. At first, something like "Rear View Mirror" sounds kind of mundane, but then it really starts to open up after repeated listens:

then again, i find Yellow House to be fairly boring melody-wise too, so obviously we differ some on music. the melodies on pretty much every song on Trials get stuck in my head for days.
