Ok, so I had a really hot date tonight. We did all the usual shit - dinner, drinks, blah blah blah. We came back to my place and I stumbled across the On Demand performance of Radiohead. When I saw it, I claimed "this is one of my favorite bands, you'll love this". The performance was "There There", " Go To Sleep", and "2+2=5".

I loved every second of it. But my date, who is a casual observer of any sort of alternative rock replied, " yeah, that was pretty good, but it wasn't nearly as exciting as you described. Actually, it was kinda boring".

How do you respond to that in a reasonable 4 sentence retort? By the way I love Radiohead.

edit: I realize this is opening up to alot of idiot replies like "just fuck her", but whatever. I think this is an interesting SOMB challenge.

not that hot if you're home at 9:03. wink.gif

I don't have four sentences to describe my love of Radiohead. I usually just say, "wow. You have poor taste in music." or something along those lines. I think that with a band that is as complex as Radiohead, you're either into it or you're not. I've never met someone who started out hating them and now love them.
Some Girl
I like this girl, she disagrees with you which means she's being herself and not trying too hard. I dunno, just tell her what you think. Then kiss 'n' shit.

Wait, are you posting while she's over? HAHA
helmet52
Thanks Jasmine, I realized my argument was trouble at 9:00 tonight. I have a great excuse why this date ended at 8:30 tonight. Radiohead might be the reason, but i'm not saying to let this thread grow.

I'm picturing this as one of those countdown-to-fuckup moments on Blind Date.

laugh.gif Man, I love Vivian.

Once we get out of the personal side of my date, someone is going to write why "Radiohead is great in 4 sentences". I'm sorry, I just can't do it.

"this is one of my favorite bands, you'll love this".

you can never say this to anyone. it's like when i make mixes for people and put on songs that sound very close or exactly like bands that i know they enjoy and get a "oh, that song was ok" reaction. i'm like, "what the fuck?! you should be thanking me for introducing them to you!" of course, i am never foolish enough to bring up music with women that i am interested in.

OK Computer is amazing. Bends is pretty good. Kid A isn't bad. Wanna give me head?

Sorry, it was bound to happen.

how about i leave my response as "I endorse the subject line of this thread 100%."

haha sound advice. I'll never forget when a girl I dated ripped apart my intense fixation on Jesus and Mary
Chain I had at the time. She was LoL-ing at the lyrics and stuff, and it ruined my evening laugh.gif

heheh...you had a date over and played Radiohead? You should have busted out the shots and played something a little less whiney. Try not to put your date to sleep with self pity music.

Well, maybe I should be helpful instead of just snarky. I listen to alot of that kind of music, and it's not date music(Radiohead, recent Wilco). Those are *depressing* bands for the most part. They have mumbly lyrics and they are both pretty whiney. Not to mention the Radiohead songs you put on are weak. Gloomy and whiney is ok if it's backed by a killer tune.

For example, I would never bring a date home and put on "It's a Sad and Beautiful World" by Sparklehorse. ( I don't date anymore, but I knew this when I did date).

If you want to right a wrong, bring the date back next time and put on something that will keep her awake. More rock, less whine. I suggest coffee with a little whiskey, and something like this:

Remember, to get pussy, you can't act like one. And Radiohead is pretty much fragile, "mr. sensitive" music. Save that shit for later on.

Advice: minimal techno, dirty minimal funk, oozey electronica, bossa nova, even post-punk. That's what mixes best with our wine.

Aww fuck, why am I begging for more abuse? First of all, we came across the Radiohead videos by flipping through the channels - it was nothing more than blind luck. Secondly, i've had sex with this girl nearly 50 times - I wasn't trying to seduce her. The fact is that Radiohead came by on the television, I stopped it, and I said "I love this band". She hated it. I had no argument against what she said.

it's ironic that the board discusses radiohead every chance they get, yet no one can
esteem a serious reply to this thread.

I'm disqualified, considering I'm not much of a fan of theirs really.

how can someone LOL at those lyrics? sounds like a silly girl. a recent bedroom date with a boy had JaMC as background music. highly recommend it.

my girlfriend used to listen to aqua. now she listens to what I say! she actually likes it now too. I know this thread was supposed to be about gay radiohead but they annoy me. I cant ever listen to their music again and I kinda like it. sucks.

This sounds good - any recommendations?

My wife hates Radiohead, primarily because she doesn't like Thom Yorke's whiny voice. I don't particularly love Radiohead either but when she hates a band I love we don't generally talk about it. It comes down to having music I play when I'm with her and music I play when I'm not with her.

This isn't a bad thing. If my gf worshipped all the bands I did, it wouldn't be as interesting.

And it *is* a very whiney voice.

If this girl had a well reasoned position on the dislike of radiohead, would this have made any difference to you? To me, great taste in music means nothing other than "someone has great taste in music." I'm now shivering imagining some scary scenarios involving people i've met who had great taste in music but turned out to be complete weirdos.

However when someone has a well thought out opinion that feels genuine...it's kind of attractive going toe to toe. Having my perspective questioned.
