I'm 26 pages too late, but WOLFMOTHER? Why are Wolfmother on your chart? This saddens me.

That's like putting K-Fed in there.

Mmmm not quite.

T.I. - "What You Know"
(2666 Points, 31 Votes, Two #1 Votes)

Ranked Highest By: Nic and Nick (#1)

Nic and Nick = the new Cobe, Cobe's Bro?

I thought lack of support from deej in this poll would hurt it, but even with another #1 vote behind it, it still wouldn't have enough points to rise to #6.

The Killers - "When You Were Young"

I don't even hate this song, but after half a page of "God, I hope The Killers take this" posts, seeing this was incredibly satisfying. This massive juggernaut only finished 1 point ahead of "Over and Over," too.

Ugh. Just realized we'll have Montana in that thread. Thank God I'm ignoring him. I recommend you all do the same. He really knows how to shit up poll results.

QUOTE(yancy @ Dec 21 2006, 11:39 PM)

Yeah, it's a shame Montana couldn't be here to share this with us.

QUOTE(MitchellStirling @ Dec 22 2006, 02:29 AM)

I echo the ignore Montana suggestion.

I'd put him on my ignore list but I know that people will be quoting him and responding to his posts anyway. Hopefully he's got early holiday plans.

A Strokes song I've never even heard of officially becomes their most-acclaimed on the board. Will listen to it once it comes up in Winamp (currently at #28, so another hour or so to go), but I definitely didn't see this coming. Did anyone even talk about this song on here this year? Radio didn't play anything from them after "Juicebox."

As a single "You Only Live Once," didn't do a whole lot. And the responsibility for that lies pretty much in the record company's hands, or in the marketing. To me it's the definition of a perfect single, tight song overall, instantly brilliant chorus, and not too long. If it was the first single off of FIOE, it may have really blown up, or at least it would have gave the album some legs commercially. It really is everything I like about the Strokes in one tight rock song. While it's the only song I really love on FIOE, but when a song is that good, I don't really care about the other tracks that follow.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that stations like Q101 prefer butt rawk attitude and production to things that don't suck. Hence "Juicebox" being something of a hit. Can't piss off the Papa Roach fans we gained when 94.7 changed formats!

i seem to remember a thread where it was hammered. i only heard it once and wasn't at all impressed, but it's also one of those songs that, y'know, is kinda difficult to cover well. i still think it should've just been left alone.

edit: found. ok, not as bad as i thought.

"A Pillar Of Salt" might be my favorite discovery from this.
Elemeno P.T.
Late to the party here. Another stellar job by GDB.

I echo the positive sentiments for Oxford Collapse.

I, too, thought Futureheads were saying "Worry About Atlanta"...thought the Mets could adopt it as their annual theme. A far better song than "Skip to the End".

Scissor Sisters is good fun but way too long and repetitive...it could take a lesson from Hot Chip and cut off the over and over before it becomes nauseating.

That Basement Jaxx song is really weak....maybe riding a bit on their reputation.

All the Sleater-Kinney haters who love "Pull Shapes" need to seriously listen to songs like "Milkshake and Honey" and "Step Aside".

Awesome blurbs from Undo (windchimes/wood block is the new cowbell intro), Slackmo (Your far, far from losing your mind, pal) and Sausage (viking bloodlust...awesome)....though can't say I'm a fan of the Timberlake blurb- lowest common denominator rarely works for me(see early Sandler films and shit like "Waiting").

Once again, the crazy number of Billboard top 40 on our list is reason enough to look ahead to the albums poll....still, we got the #1 right...no mainstream song has deserved #1 more.

Q101 numbers have pretty much gone down each book since 94.7 flipped. Plus the 94.7 crowd didn't buy shit, the have no money, their's no market for it in a major city, that's why they flipped.

top 40 is very good-- take out, like, jenny lewis, all-american rejects, raconteurs and it's all good songs-- even that strokes song is good; bottom 20 is made awesome by the presence of these pleasant surprises:

99 Oxford Collapse Please Visit Your National Parks 616 9
97 Killer Mike That's Life 625 9
96 El Perro del Mar God Knows (You Got to Give) 630 9
93 Goldfrapp Ride a White Horse / Serge Santiago Re-Edit 637 9
90 Sally Shapiro I'll Be By Your Side / Club REMIX 658 10
88 CSS Alala 666 10
87 Klaxons Gravity's Rainbow / The Bouncer 671 8
85 Jarvis Cocker Running the World 675 8 1
84 Voxtrot Mothers, Daughters, Sisters & Wives / Rise Up in the Dirt / Four Long Days / Soft & Warm 692 8 1
82 Love is All Busy Doing Nothing 699 9
81 Fiona Apple Not About Love 712 9

80-41 is hit and miss, about a 50% strike ratio, but on the whole this turned pretty well. Considering there are two Flaming Lips singles and an OK Go one, the overall quality is even more remarkable.

I can't believe sask and others avoided camera obscura! (p.s. underachievers... was a good record)

more underwhelmed than dislike it-- a few of my co-workers love it, so I think I'm mostly sick of it and think it's overrated based on that very small sample size.

jenny lewis is ok, too. just blandsville. raconteurs sound like a miller lite commercial. I hope if jack white is really going to get all his rock crap out via these guys he goes all country or something with the white stripes, although with their minimalism I guess that's not possible. In any event, he should make an old-timey honky-tonk record.
The Good Dr Bill
I'd much rather hear a Stripes metal record than a Stripes country record, personally. White's at his most annoying and precious when doing his good ole boy schtick.

#52."Weird Al" Yankovic - "White & Nerdy"

: "Love the song! It's so funny! And the video is so funny too! About his dog having his own myspace page, and he's got people begging him for his top 8 friends space! So funny! and when in the video he's on his segway and he stops at those black guys and they flip him off and he's just like smiling at them like oh you shouldnt be jokin like that. and i also love the part in the video where he gives the guys 100 dollars for a star wars tape and he's smiling at it like he's a nerd. lol. and at the bowling place and he looks at those guys when hes fixing to bowl and those black guys look at him like hes crazy or white and nerdy! oh, the video is so funny and i laugh everytime i see it! it's doing so good on vh1 countdown. I'm white and nerdy! lol! just kiddin! great song and video!"

The only thing that would have been crazier is if this beat out Chamillionaire's "Ridin'". Shittiest blurb ever, BTW. smile.gif

Finally listening to this, and yeah, once I entered the top 40, it became a very solid listen. Even tracks I didn't care for when I heard them over the course of the year (Lily Allen, Phoenix, etc) fit in beautifully. Fantastic job, SOMB.
