The Good Dr Bill
time to get started with this. Thanks to everyone who voted and wrote blurbs--looked like it was gonna be a poor show for a while, but I've gotten all but five or so of the blurbs in, and I consider that a pretty good strike rate for three days notice.

The one further thing I ask of you guys is that you just post in this thread--post early, post often, etc. I can't tell you how annoying it is to have to wait ten minutes in between each post just so it won't double up. Whatever.

Cobra Starship - "Snaeks on a Plane (Bring It!)"

US Chart Position
: #32 Modern Rock

UK Chart Position: n/a

Purpology Music Video Review: ""I didn't want the song to be literal. The snakes are a metaphor for shysters, the kind of dudes you'd imagine riding in first class sipping champagne." - Cobra Starship frontman Gabe Saporta on his band's hit song "Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)."

Now, I'm all about having fun, playing in hot-water puddles in midtown and licking sweat off metal street lamps when it's 98 degrees out, but Klosterman is totally right about Snakes on a Plane (the movie). I'm not going to see it because I could spend that time doing sit-ups or watching a screensaver on a toaster. Plus, I'm scared of snakes (who in their right mind isn't?!). The big bluh will come when people sit down expecting a comedy and get a mediocre action movie that's serious with its blood, fangs and dead, dead eyes. Remember, the movie didn't know it was a comedy until after it was filmed. Shoot, Kel even thought it would be his legit breakthrough. This video knows it's a comedy. Still sucks though.

The tall guy gets it (a little too much), the blond girl gets it (but still wants to look sexy), the dude with the lobe discs thinks he's smart (and sexy) and the other guy thinks he's in a Fall Out Boy-directed remake of Pulp Fiction. I like how the tall guy likes to mention how the song "isn't that literal" in interviews about the video. Is he haunted by the fact that he is indeed a slithering whore for the fame and has to combat that nagging truth with laughable press rationalizations? The irony is, what they really need to do is get the snakes to get the planes to stop doing this shit, and it's over. ©"

interesting about that. A band i talked to recently hated their press release info and just bashed them to death and were completely honest w/ me. One guy even told me how old everyone in the band is and said labels are strict about people not revealing their real age if you dont have to

Oxford Collapse - "Please Visit Your National Parks"

US Chart Position

UK Chart Position: n/a

Filter Magazine Blurb: "Brooklyn rockers Oxford Collapse are a band whose music demands your attention. "Please Visit Your National Parks", the 1st single off the band's Sub Pop debut From Remember the Night Parties, is a restless, urgent rock nuggets with shout-along vocals.

The song is further evidence that what started off as a joke party band is now a finely tuned punk-rock machine. As they tour in support of this, their 3rd alum, they show no signs of letting up with their angular and immediate songs."

The Futureheads - "Worry About it Later"

US Chart Position
: n/a

UK Chart Position: #52

Drowned in Sound Review: " As far as I'm concerned, News And Tributes was a disappointment – the Sunderland-based quartet left me with mixed feelings about an album that took a more laid back approach, and for the most part seemed unintentionally boring. Regardless, The Futureheads still have the a for writing a good pop song, something the comeback single 'Skip To The End' showcased in abundance.

'Worry About It Later' is the second single to be lifted from News And Tributes and ultimately one of a lesser-quality. Whilst 'Skip To The End' charms with its Clash-esque riffery and stop-start rhythmic prowess, 'Worry About It Later' meanders, never really hitting the spot. Yes, there is the nicely placed chorus complete with jingly-jangly tambourines and alternating vocal harmonies, but it just feels distinctly average – something that much of The Futureheads’ somophore effort suffers from throughout. Unlike previous singles, 'Worry About It Later' isn’t catchy enough to remember and doesn’t have enough substance to have you coming back for repeated listens.

Sorry lads, but this single fails to hit the mark. " (5/10)

Killer Mike - "That's Life!"

US Chart Position
: n/a

UK Chart Position: n/a

Pitchfork Track Review: "Crackers, backpackers, whatever-- relentless fire-breathing transcends such sub-genre squabbles. To wit, all else quickly becomes moot once this monster begins his head-boiling barrage-- but instead of going on about purple tops or double barreled bang-bangetry, Mike is chopping it up with Cornel West and Michael Eric Dyson and "servicing the motherfuckin' children." You can practically see the steam spouting from his brain.

Channeling Ice Cube's vintage 1991 flow, Mike manages to chew out Bush (I, II, and Barb), Oprah, Cosby, doctors, Bill O'Reilly, preachers, Martha Stewart, and "rich motherfuckers black and white." He even clears up the brotherhood of the baggy pants myth in one of the track's searing between-verse screaming-word diatribes that contain as much-- if not more-- venom as its rhymes. So, yeah, he's angry. But, somehow, still optimistic; he's not about to roll himself up in a big ball and die. Instead, even after checking off his infinite shit list, he reverses the titular self-defeating shoulder shrug: "If you don't like what I'm sayin'…that's life!" You're either with him or you're a greedy multi-millionaire pedophile crackhead slut with no regard for the human race, fuckface." (5/5)

El Perro del Mar - "God Knows (You Got to Give to Get)"

US Chart Position
: n/a

UK Chart Position: n/a

Pitchfork Track Review: "This song's come along at the perfect time of year. An anthem for late winter, it's well-suited for these few weeks when you'd rather freeze in a light jacket than wear that heavy coat one more time. Sarah Assbring, who goes by the stage name El Perro del Mar, uses girl-group elements to try to reconnect with the world, but "God Knows (You Gotta Give to Get)" is small instead of enormous, minimal instead of maximal, intensely personal instead of glowingly public. Her wall of sound is no towering monument, but a crumbling fieldstone property boundary: ancient (if the 1960s can be considered that), sturdy, picturesque, and built stone by stone using bells, ruminative bassline, barely-there piano, swooning guitar, shivering reeds, and gentle backing vocals-- all on a soft bed of strings nursing a sad, bouncy chorus that's as catchy as an early-spring cold." Asobi Seksu - "Thursday"

US Chart Position

UK Chart Position: n/a

Underrated Blog's Song of the Week Review: "I've been listening to Citrus by Asobi Seksu a lot lately. It calms me just a bit from the daily storm known as life. (Just writing things like that make me question my mental status.) Regardless, it's a beautifully executed album from this New York band, teetering between noise and melodies with a Japanese edge. Check out a recent interview the band did with Pitchfork and then go purchase Citrus over at Insound.

I first heard "Thursday" during a trailer. As soon as I heard the song again I tried to remember what trailer it was from. My first thought was Marie Antoinette but that was wrong. It was from Flannel Pajamas, a new indie flick that will be out in New York next month. I love movie trailers; sometimes more than the film themselves and this one may take the cake. Always a sucker for a good romance, and combined with the gorgeous song "Thursday", I'm already sold."

Madonna - "Sorry" / Man With Guitar Vocal Edit

US Chart Position
: #58 / #1 Dance

UK Chart Position: #1

Virgin.net Review: "If there's one thing that Madonna needs to know, it's that spoken word interludes (and varieties thereof eg. ropey rap attempts and Kabballah chants), unless they have something funny to say, or at least an interesting way of saying it, are completely, totally uncool. Hearing her enunciating "I'm sorry" in a variety of languages on this second Confessions On A Dancefloor single, therefore, is a deeply cringe-inducing experience. Presumably she wanted to make this euro-dance number even more, well, euro, but producer Stuart Price should have told her to can it and stick to the script. Anyway, with that off our chests, we're happy to say that Sorry is otherwise a solid and fairly infectious combo of pumping, filtered synths and disco beats which is destined to top the charts with ease."
