reminds me of this

Reminds me of this, I'd say:

avec

"Don't be afraid, you're already dead" is my anthem of the year. Simple, heartrending, humorous tune. With a toy xylophone to boot. Really though, they do pretty much everything on this album. It's so chock full of music/ideas, but it's not overwhelming when you listen to it, like most other proggy weird groups.

I didn't even know that Weiss recorded music outside of Ween.

Pavement Ist Rad
I'm pretty sure he doesn't. Awesome that he did this album, though. He is fucking good. This is the man to record ambitious fucking genius rock bands.

"Don't Be Afraid, You're Already Dead"... I was listening to this on the school bus last week thinking about some real personal-like developments in my life as of late, and it's such a simple little hippy flower-child shit song, but when that chorus of all the guys singing "LOVE IS SIMP-UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!" hit, and their voices are all beautiful and they're just surrounding you and it's amazing... well, I was moved.

The rock-out after the quiet bit in "Of All The Things"... fuck. That was great live. And it's great on here, too. Of course. Wonderful album.

uh, yeah. I'm not downplaying this album at all by raving about him, either. Album kicks ass. I always enjoyed Weiss' production work with Ween, but this time around he has totally blown my mind. I can't find a flaw here.

How bout the awesome chanting in Ed is a Portal? and the tribal drumming...finally a group outside of the Boredoms to be man enough to go primitive.

"Crickets" is such a fucking awesome pussy little tune, too. I was driving back from work in a trance listening to it.

Yeah, good album.

P.W. Long - God Bless the Drunkard's Dog
You remember Mule? They was the first band I was aware of to fully integrate ass/shitkicking Southern rock with the pre-Groonge T+G/AmRep/punk/noise (the other two members were refugees of the Laughing Hyenas (and PW was falsely rumored to be John Brannon's brother)), and to this day remain the finest documented practioners of such. This great new record by PW Long, who was the crazed hillbilly hound who sang and played guitar in Mule, is a real return to grizzled, howling form. He sounds inspired and energized unlike ever before - great tunes, great singing, incredible guitar playing. For some reason, this release is vinyl-only, but I came across a rip on slsk, so I grabbed it just for you guys.

Could anyone re-upload this? I actually have the vinyl already and love it but would also be great to have MP3's of it.

and hey, I just discovered that Crime has a NEW album out. It's called 'Exalted Masters', and is vinyl-only.

That's very odd. Good news though. I just assumed Crime was gone and never to be heard from again.

So this album is pretty awesome. This version of the band has apparently been playing out for three years or so, and sounds tough as shit. The famous piercing, tinny lead guitar is in place, but the whole thing is a notch or two heavier and harder sounding. I dunno, bigger amps, maybe. The noir subject matter (leader Johnny Strike* also dabbles in crime fiction) and vaguely Lou Reed-ish vox both contribute appropriate menace.
Like I said, vinyl-only, so no mp3s at this time. I wouldn't be surprised if Swami ended up releasing this on cd soon, but I recommend getting it now. I ordered mine from Goner, and I know Reckless has it, or you can order it direct from the band.

Wierd, I just watched it again and its working fine.

Its basically a little song about someone turning emo. Not an original topic but it's done in a hilairious northern UK accent.

Yep. It's working again.

anyone heard/have the new psychedelic horseshit record magic flowers drone or something?
Pavement Ist Rad
I've been meaning to hear that shit, seeing how on fire Siltbreeze has been throughout 2007. Downloading now.

While we're here, has anybody else heard the Wooden Shjips record? Listened to it this morning, and damn, it surprised the crap out of me. Awesome Doors/VU/krautrock sort of shit. But tuneful. Really fucking excellent album, that.

I like the way that Wooden Shjips record sounds on a second-to-second basis, but in the end, it's just a half-assed VU/Spacemen 3 rip. I mean, I'll listen to it, but it's extremely inessential.

I'll probably listen to it again this week. My opinion may very well change.
I've got the Psychedelic Horseshit album. I played it, heard it, but I wasn't actually listening. I like their singles quite a bit, so yeah, looking forward, etc.
ash
really into the psych horse shit and wooden shjips lps, check out the new sub pop single (shjips), it's great

8. Miss Alex White and the Red Orchestra - Space and Time

I've had one other person mention this to me - any good?

It's a swinging, chugging Motorhead/Stooges/Go Go's type thing, and you'll flip when the horns kick in on "Future Talk".
If you like Mark Sultan you should like this.

Sweet, thanks. Motorhead/Stooges/Go Go's/Mark Sultan references hit all the right spots.

Any chance that someone could reup this?
Sounds cool.

got the new Blacks and Whites EP today. the ltd ed cover looks nice, and it's definitely their most solid record yet.

ordered a bunch of stuff today, Black Sunday/LJR split and the "new" Lost Sounds 7" from Tic Tac Totally, TV Ghost LP. pretty psyched about all that mess. also, promo copies of the new Dirtbombs are being shipped this week, so i got that to look forward to. also Guinea Worms 7" is coming my way, and that's been hyped to hell so i can't wait to hear it.

there was a dry spell there over the holidays, but things are kicking back in in a hurry.
