The first 12 songs feature the original line-up, it's a mix of tracks from the SST album Kill from the Heart and the live Big Boys split LP. Then there's two songs from a 1984 7" by the re-formed San Fran Dicks, "We Don't Want No Fuckin War" and "I hope you get drafted"-- maybe my favorite two tracks. The rest is from the band's 2nd/last LP called These People and I think it's less essential.

I'd like to hear more Dayglo Abortions.

Blood Guts & Pussy is simply one of the best hardcore records ever made. Much less psychedelic than Lick It, although still retaining lots of the 60s garage influence. Of course, it's still just one hell of a balls to the wall, filthy fucking hardcore punk album. One of my all-time favorite albums.

Amazingly enough, the Dwarves have also managed to make yet another of my all-time favorite albums, that being The Dwarves Are Young & Good Looking. A well-produced, kickass poppy punk rock record. Like the Ramones gone evil or something. Simply brilliant.

And the greatness doesn't stop there. Come Clean is another poppy experience, but the production is just insanely progressive for a punk record released on Epitaph. Really diverse stuff on that one. I love this band. They have other good records, too. Oh god.

The Saints were a great Australian punk band. Their debut, (I'm) Stranded, from 1977 doesn't sound as punk as it probably did when it was released, but it's still a great dose of high energy straightforward rock 'n roll.

Golden Shower of Hits

Their third album is a quick little blast of SoCal punk. Not too political - just fun. The album closes with their medley of AM radio hits, which they butcher very nicely. Maybe one of the first examples of the ironic cover song(s).

As I was saying, here is YET ANOTHER Jay Reatard thing, this one a more direct spinoff of The Lost Sounds, as it is a duo collaboration with Alicja Trout, the other most-visible member of said band. It's a mostly studio-bound electro-New Wave/Frogs hybrid, not as immediately urgent as what we're used to hearing from these folks, but fine stuff nonetheless. Oh, name of the band is Nervous Patterns. This is the s/t lp:

Billion Dollar Babies - Battle Axe (1973)

My friend introduced me to this awhile back..

Many of you probably know that Alice Cooper was the name of the band before Alice Cooper took on a solo career with Welcome To My Nightmare. After they left/were fired they decided to start a group called the Billion Dollar Babies composed at the core of Dennis Dunaway (bass player), Neal Smith (Drums), and Michael Bruce (Guitar, Lead Vox). That said, this is only an average album, but it's cool to brag about having.

The band toured for a little bit, but their elaborate stage show proved too much for the small audiences they were attracting and they all went their seperate ways. All I know of current activities is that Dennis Dunaway has the Dennis Dunaway project, which is actually pretty kickass. I'll see if I have any to upload.

Interesting fact - In an interview with Dennis Dunaway he said that Billion Dollar Babies (or another album, but I think it was BDB) was supposed to be a double album but the second album got scraped. I'm pretty sure that Battle Axe is that second half. It makes sense, as I could picture Alice singing most of these songs. I wish he did, too, because Michael Bruce isn't that great a singer and doesn't convey the angst of the songs well.

For more info visit this great website I just found: http://www.alicecoopershow.co.uk/albums/ba..._battle_axe.htm

Not as rough than the other stuff in here, but worth checking out anyway. Very catchy, sloppy, loosely-played power pop/garage rock; the singer sounds like Alex Chilton crossed with Tom Verlaine. That's all I got. It's pretty fun.

Essential. Sounds like Fugazi if they sped up the tempo and Guy screamed a lot more. They wore suits and caused various injuries to themselves when they played shows. There was also some bizarre satirical(?) political agenda behind the music, which makes their backstory pretty interesting too, if you feel like digging that up.

I think I have found my dream thread. Regarding Mouthbreathers list of things, I have some (okay a lot of) requests if anyone cares to deal with them. If not that's cool too, it's certainly not important.

Black Flag: "My War"
Circle Jerks: "Group Sex"
X: "Under The Big Black Sun" (Do I want that? I hear it's good)
X-Ray Spex: "Germ-Free Adolescents"
The Germs: "(GI)"
The Dictators: "Go Girl Crazy!"

I have taken care to get the entire Hüsker Dü discography but I have yet to get "Land Speed Record" because for some reason the CD only has two tracks, one for side one and one for side two. I wish they would rerelease it with a track list intact.

If anyone wants anything to do with Johnny Thunders or his various bands, I probably have that.

THE NOW TIME DELEGATION - Watch For Today
IPB Image
I always thought that Lisa Kekaula of the Bell Rays suffered a bit from what I call Mark Arm Syndrome. That is, a grade-a vocalist spending too much time and energy at the service of so-so material. This supergroup (Tim Kerr (Big Boys, Lord High Fixers, the (disappointing, Arm-fronted) Monkeywrench... ) and Alex Cuervo (Blacktop) are the other "big" names) one-off (I think - the album came out six years ago, and there's not even a hint at a follow-up) replaces the Bell-Ray's abrasive hard rock with tuff 60s southern r'n'b, and it sounds great. Nothing that hasn't been done a thousand times before - I'm not sure there's even one original tune on the record - but it's done exactly right.

QUOTE
Lisa Kekaula - vocals

Hey now, hey now, hey now! And right now – I mean like right now – let’s jump, let’s jive, let’s harmonize! Let’s move, let’s groove, let’s shout the blues! Let’s get reelin’ with the feelin’ to the band that’s so appealin’! So clap your hands and stomp your feet and do a little dance, all right, all reet, to the double-backbeat of the mean city street! The uptown sound that’s goin’ down!
The w-i-L-d-est band this side of Birdland … The NOW TIME DELEGATION!!!
Sometimes they sound like a three-way sonik bar-fight between the “2120 South Michigan Avenue”-era Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds at their most blueswailing, and either Ann Peebles’s snake-hipped take on “Part Time Love” or Koko Taylor’s doin’ her “Wang Dang Doodle.”
Take “Little Miss Fortune” (and don’t call me in the morning). Sometimes they sound like a
tied-to-the-whippin’ post, murder ballad as done by Julie Driscoll fronting Brian Auger & The Trinity or – if that’s not too-hip for the room -- Nina Simone as played by the Animals or the Alan Price Set. Dig “Hangin’ Tree” now (and plant you later allegators). And sometimes they sound like they’re flashin’ back to the rock ‘n’ soul daze of the MC5 playin’ the Grande Ballroom. Witness “Stand And Deliver” (and let me see a sea of hands out there).

Then there’s that mannish-girl’s thrump-up on the classic-rock S*T*A*R swagger of Free. Say “Bye Bye,” baby (and doo-ron, doo-ron if you met her on a Sunday). And how ‘bout that guitar player’s torn ‘n’ frayed solo on that little somethin’ that goes somethin’ like somethin’ from “Etta James Sings the Malaco-Muscle Shoals-Memphis Southern-soul Songbook”? Try “Laying On The Ground” (and tell me I’m lyin’). And that ain’t the half of it. Take one part tumescent organ instro covers of all-but-forgotten young mods the Quik doin’ their best imitation of the Small Faces doin’ their best Booker T. & The MG’s imitation (“Bert’s Apple Crumble”) AND unsung, but oft-heard cult-heroes the T.S.U. Toronados, who came straight outta Texas State University with the O.G. version of the groovealacious sounds found here (“Getting The Corners”), having previously worn the shine off the dancefloor as the backing band on Archie Bell & The Drells’ inspirational “Tighten Up.”

Add two parts soul, both familiar (Eddie Floyd’s “Raise Your Hand,” as interpreted by the bar-band that appears in the klassick ’67 drive-in flick “Hot Rods To Hell” -- or maybe Slim Harpo & The King Bees live! at the Sage Avenue Armory in 1961 -- a two-fisted workout on the Flirtations’ “can’t forget the Motor City” knock-off, “Nothin’ But A Heartache,” and a super-sparse rearrangment of Curtis Mayfield’s anthemic gospel rewrite for the Impressions, “Keep On Pushin’”) and obscure (a beautifully understated, heartwrenching rendition of King Floyd’s ballad “Handle With Care,” a.k.a. the B-side of the too-funky “I Feel Like Dynamite” – a cult-jam in its own right.) More a legend than a band, the NOW TIME DELEGATION are (drum roll please …) ex-Gospel Swingers organist Kari Luna, bassist Alex Cuervo, and drummer Steve Adkins, whose respective credits stretch from the Grownups to Blacktop to rockabilly pioneer Ronnie Dawson; guitarslinger Tim Kerr, whose vital stats include stints with the Big Boys, Poison 13, Jack O’ Fire, Lord High Fixers and The Monkeywrench; and Lisa Kekaula of the BellRays (vocals extraordinaire). “Look To Tomorrow” is their statement of purpose.

Watch For Today makes good on that statement.
They are the NOW TIME DELEGATION. And the party starts here …
