Aye. Thanks for this. There's so much there and I know so little about it. Maybe I'll hit the top 5 or so and work down from there.

It was worth a looksee just to find out there's an Audion remix of my favorite Hot Chip song, "No Fit State". Awesome.

Has anybody heard The Marcia Blaine School For Girls' Halfway Into the Woods yet? I think it's something that would fit in this thread. I'm intrigued by the descriptions and the couple of songs that I've heard from it.

QUOTE
The Marcia Blaine School For Girls is actually comprised of three Glaswegian lads who have been forging their own particular approach to electronic music for the past few years, melding such disparate styles as American minimalism, Detroit techno and the blunted groove of dancehall and then adding their own distinct signature treatments of crushed rhythms and affecting haunting melodies. Since their inception they have released a steady stream of material for labels including Static Caravan, Benbecula, Awkward Silence, Dalriada, Expanding, Struktur and Stuff Records, and also previously curated a compilation of Scottish electronica for Highpoint Lowlife. 'Halfway Into The Woods' is their debut full-length, and finds them incorporating vocals for the first time, and expanding upon the recurring themes and ideas hinted at on previous releases. There's a whole rich seam of electronic history running through this album from Orbital to Autechre, through to the modern IDM players.

2. The Field - A Paw In My Face (5:24)
3. The Field - Good Things End (6:08)
4. The Field - The Little Heart Beats So Fast (5:25)

8. The Field - Sun And Ice (6:34)
9. The Field - Mobilia (6:28)

Yeah, The Field album sounds really promising. Definitely one of the better releases from this year, although I'm feeling pretty inundated with good stuff at the moment.
BGwaves
The Field(s) ep was great. Looks like they added a few more tracks and kept one off for the LP. I would like very much to have this.

Also, I like the Eulberg album. Artem questioned the talking, but I enjoy the field recordings and the fact that I don't know what he is saying adds to the mystery. Euphoric melodies and a distinctive openness help this album rise above the rest of the minimalists.
Artem
after a few listens of that eulberg album i have to agree that the spoken word indeed fits the music in a rather odd way. it doesn't distract me from enjoing it. the album could be just as good without it, but it makes it an interesting and unusual listen. i also prefer the first half of that album, which as you say is melodic and open. the second half gets a bit more techier, and even though i like that sort of sound, it doesn't work that well for me on that album. it's definitely my favourite release of the year so far, but still i don't see anything there to go crazy about. it's just a very nice recording.

Big claims but the subtle textures and production in general exceed Burial’s debut. Frame-shaking sub bass, percussion so spaced out you could drive a train between the beats. Been listening for just over a week now and my favorites keep changing everyday….not because I’m going off any of the tracks…just because I’m starting to appreciate the depth of the ones I initially perceived as being weaker. My mate who owns a hi-fi shop says this album is shifting units…I can see why…it’s fucking rich.

okay, a listen to the new "Camping" comp confirms what I suspected... Artem totally kneejerking for the sake of looking edgy.

Anyway, pretty good, more like the compilations put out before the last, more pop accessible two. Some hits, some misses, if you already dig Bpitch, you'll like this, etcetera.
Artem
why would i want to look edgy? you make me feel like i'm writing for pitchfork here or something.

i didn't like that bpitch compilation because it was so vocally oriented. and it wasn't even that vocal-techhouse thing that bpitc artist had been doing. most of the tracks were jsut straight up pop songs with techno arrangements to them. like hot chip but with more computers. i rather like the previous two bpitch compilaitons. the new one to me has nothing what i liked in the previous two. where's "happy happy"? "disco to break"? "in between days"?

I... don't know! I don't mean to bring up any the bad feeling again. I'm not really understanding your take on it. Compared to the previous two comps it's not even as vocally orientated (5 tracks out of 14?) and well... bpitch have always put out laptop-pop type songs that aren't really dancefloor minded (and jeez, I'll take them over Hot Chip). "in between days" wasn't on the previous two comps... but if you just mean why isn't it here, the idea was to have all exclusives this time round so a few nice tracks did get excluded yes. If you're saying the "techno" is rather poppy, well... and? They've always been very accessible in that way (like Kompakt). Anyway you don't have to like it Artem, "downtempo techno" seems an odd way (and way wrong) to describe it, however, does the diversity of it quite a disservice too.

btw, the "disco to break" equivalent this time round is clearly the Tomas Andersson track! and it's a big fat dud frankly.

Yeah, Distance is all kinds of good. The last track Delight is one of the nicest slices of mellow dubstep I’ve had the pleasure to hear...I’m usually all about the chunky stuff but that is a fragile thing of beauty.

On a different tip, Leeds' Distinction might not have the sheen of Distance but there is certainly some swagger in his stagger. The After Life 3 track EP is his debut on the Dub Police label. I like the chants and strings on the first track and the precarious crescendo of WOB on the second.
