New Mira Calix out now. Anyone heard it? I'm trying to listen to samples on Bleep.com but they only let you play the first 30 seconds of each track, so I can't tell whether there'd be more interest for it in here or in the ambient thread.

I'm waiting til I get my turntable before I hear it, because I got the ltd vinyl edition. Waiting sucks!

And they got the release date wrong. It was mid-January.

Thanks so much to Bruegel for the Clark stuff. Speaking of that, I'm not sure how many of you have heard Bitstream, but if you haven't, you must. If you like Clark and Aphex with a little scratching thrown in for good measure, give this album a try.

Yep, Arrhythmia. I still haven't heard the first one, and after realizing how fun this one is I don't think I want to bother. Like some other guy around here said, "Mega." Good tracks overall.

A veritable smorgasbord of electronic-detritus presented for your delectation today.

First up, a couple of tasty splits. First one came out at the arse end of last year but its really grown on me of late. Shackleton has been causing quite a stir in dubsville for a while now and this is a good introduction. The obligatory tribal percussion and Arabian pipes lull each other into a stand-still by about the three minute mark presenting an appropriate juncture to unleash the smacky sub slides and thus give birth to a rattling beast of a track. In total contrast, the flip side finds Mordant Music presiding over a slow-building, synth-led pounder. Great little ten-inch.

Efdemin’s contribution to this split is a striking departure from last years Bergwein. Where that track used a field recording of school children playing to provoke nostalgic melancholia this one places anthemic preacher-like musings centre stage to demonstrate the debt that German minimal techno owes old-school Chicago House. Contrasting means, equally evocative ends. Jost’s tune on the reverse prolongs the tribute theme with the deceptively subtle yet efficient beauty we have come to expect from Dial. I’m wearing this one out at the moment.
In related news Efdemin (Phillip Sollmann) has finished an album that will be out on Dial in a couple of months and continues his work with RNDM under the Pigon moniker – this year just gets better.

Meanwhile...at the psychotic end of the dancefloor...first Ceephax album proper(?) since Exidy Tours and its raving madness – who needs “nu-rave” when you’ve got neo-hardcore nonsense of this calibre. This gets as near to the Andy Jenkinson live experience as anything he’s committed to wax to date. Hardcore-drill/drum’n’bass-technoid stompers for the most part...gets a bit mellow and squelchy around the edges as it acidifies towards the end. Volume Two should leak very soon and he’s got an EP called Megalift dropping on µ next month….good times.

New Boxcutter, nice one. And wowsers on the massive uppage. I hear a lot about Shackleton, but does anyone know if Appleblim is still knocking about? That stuff on Majestic Visions is prolly my third favourite dubstep, or whatever it is that I choose to classify as dubstep but really have no idea, because the goalposts keep sliding about like Tom when Jerry floods the kitchen then freezes it.

Ive only heard a couple of Digitaline tracks in mixes but I liked em. Where did you hear the samples? when’s it due? On his Myspace Sollmann says that the Efdemin album has eight new tracks and is scheduled for an April/May release.

I loved Le Fil. This came along with an Al Usher mix of the same track but not surprisingly the Schwarz mix is the pick....respectfully understated.

Yeah, Dubstep is hardly the most impervious of umbrella terms. Like most genres, a lot of the best stuff seems to defy catagorisation. It doesn't help that they keep changing their names every five minutes - every Shackleton release seems to be accompanied by claims that it is his last under that name. All the Appleblim stuff Ive heard has been on the flip of Shackleton's Skull Disco releases.

Worth reading. I love how he used "Reach Out I'll Be There" on the Things Keep Falling Down EP but the title track of the new album sort of annoyed me at first. But after a few listens, its seemingly random ending takes on a really haunting quality and becomes a fitting close for the album.

Bare in mind I’ve only been through it twice bit I'm definitely feeling it. First half was a little repetitive - sort of gets locked into a tempo. That said, if I heard any of those tracks on their own Id probably have been blown away. Second half sustains the amazing percussive elements and brings a bit more variety to the table too. I need longer with it but initial signs are encouraging. Its not got my undivided yet as I’ve been a bit distracted by the leak of DJ Food's 'Listen Again' mix yesterday and this today:
