Ozric Tentacles - The Yumyum Tree

blink.gif We have seen some strange things posted in this thread over the years but that just about takes the biscuit. I haven't heard the Ozrics mentioned for years.

Authentic wtf moment. This band was ubiquitous on the Birmingham toilet circuit in the late 80s, saw them a few times by mistake simply because they played in my toilet. Couldn't get the buggers out. Actually, Bark Psychosis once slept on my floor - that's a true fact. This belongs in the prog thread innit?
jugo
)))))

plus, anything by infected mushroom shits all over them
badger5000
Big interview with Moritz von Oswald in new ish of The Wire, also Pierre Henry. Ariel Pink is a good laugh in the invisible jukebox feature, esp on the subject of Hall & Oates - reads like something that might have been posted here at the end of a long night.
Bruegs
I'll have to get that - Does he talk much about the MVO Trio album? Should be with us very soon.

NP : ATLEOTDF edition -

badger5000
^ he does, at some length. First half of interview is career/scene overchat, 2nd hlaf is Trio related. Good read, nice guy.

Warp have just announced their Warp20 Box Set.

It's all kinds of amazing, but also rather pricey (well not really when compared to other band's deluxe editions)

Warp20 (1989-2009) The Complete Catalogue: 192 page book
10” square, 192 page full-colour, perfect-bound book. The complete-ist’s dream – a catalogue of artwork of every Warp release from its inception in 1989 to August 2009. Includes artwork from over 400 sleeves including work by the Designers Republic, Julian House, Build, Universal Everything and Kim Hiorthøy amongst others. Foreword by Warp co-founder Steve Beckett. Black un-coated board cover with debossed and foiled typography.

Warp20 (Chosen): Double CD album
The definitive best of Warp on 2 x CDs. Ten songs chosen by you (Warp20.net), ten songs chosen by Warp co-founder Steve Beckett. Packaged in deluxe case-bound 10” folder, exclusive to this box set. Your personal messages and memories from Warp20.net featured on pullout poster.

Warp20 (Recreated): Double CD album
2 x CDs featuring twenty brand new cover versions of Warp songs by Warp artists past and present; including tracks by Autechre, Harmonic 313, Jamie Lidell, Plaid, Clark, Maximo Park, Leila, Seefeel, Luke Vibert and more… Packaged in deluxe case-bound 10” folder exclusive to this box set.

Warp20 (Elemental): CD album
Specially-commissioned hour long piece by re-edit master Osymyso, made from sections, samples, and fragments of Warp music from the last 20 years. Exclusive to Warp20 (Box Set) and packaged in deluxe case bound 10” folder.

2 x 10” vinyl cuts of hand-picked locked-groove loops from Warp tracks. Four sides of loops for mixing fun. Exclusive to Warp20 (Box Set) and housed in uncoated card sleeves with debossed covers.

Full Details HERE.

Man I want this so much..

Bruegs
Thanks for the heads-up

£85 for the pre-order doesn't actually seem that prohibitive/exploitative considering the contents and undoubted demand. The unreleased, remixed and loop stuff could be interesting but I’m not convinced about spending any amount of money on CDs containing Jamie Lidell/Maximo Park songs. Shame you can't pick and choose the bits you want.

Think I'll save my cash for the Hyperdub box.

Couldn't decide which GPK sticker best summed up this Starkey remix so I just used both…

g33z

has anyone ever heard of that? http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_QA7-i1eV57E/SLb7...600-h/front.jpg

that cover is too awesome, and that looks like some kind of classic compilation but i had never heard of it before...

also i couldn't find a tracklist for that Warp20 boxset, anyone knows whats on the "Recreated" and "Unheard" discs? Those seem pretty interesting actually.

Oo heck yeah. I was gonna reply to the Byker Grove fact ("Spuggy!" err... "whatcha doo-in' wi' that, leyk?" *cough*), but 10" records = hotness. The content is bonus. This has to be got by me.

I've always been fascinated by 10"s - can't really explain why but they just feel right

two of my faves from this year are:
Mordant Music - The Hauntological Song
Stephan Mathieu - The Key To The Kingdom

I think I've played the Fireworks 10" more times than I've played the SJ LP.

When Jamie Lidell goes electronic, it's brilliant! But yeah Maximo Park are awful.

Hyperdub Box?
RabbiSchmoiley
Yeah, I think I'll have to save up my money for the Warp box. The artwork alone looks stunning.

Hey, that Clark album is pretty rad. I've also been digging the Wisp album... thanks for those! Not much time to listen to the thumpa thumpa lately because we have a baby girl, and according to my wife we'll cause irreparable brain damage if "Outside Plume" hits those tender little ears. So, I'm going to have to spend my entire commute listening to things I've grabbed from this thread. Not a bad thing, mind you!

Oh yeah, I saw the Few Nolder record, called New Folder, and all I could think of was Chris Morris passing a script to a hapless MP with the camera rolling. So Brasseyesque.

So much good stuff to listen to at the moment. Falty DL and Few Nolder are both superb. Totems Flare gets better by the day as well. Dropped acid on sunday and listened to it while lying in a field, was absolutely perfect.

This Hymen compilation is also pretty good. Haven't got through everything yet, but new Wisp, End and Karsten Pflum jumped out at me. Karsten Pflum's myspace claims he's going to be releasing a new album this summer, which gets me very excited indeed, especially given the direction he appears to be taking with this track.

Dude is a soundsystem king. Never seen him live, but his albums have a way of working well on every type of soundsystem (car, computer, stereo) and in every form (digital, analogue.) He prolly tests his shit on all kinds of systems before he even sends it in for a full mixdown. love this guy.

New Clark is a mixed bag, the tracks with vocals are terrible but there's some good stuff sandwiched in there.
Tongue-Tied
i don't mind the vocal tracks at all. good shit.e
mrjackalope
I dunno I like my IDM without the intrusion of anything organic.

Totem Flare's production is really nice (it has a sort of tape-deck ambiance, kind of like Selected Ambient Works) so the top tracks have a nice coherency and mood, but it's sequenced poorly and, again, the vocal tracks blow.

QUOTE (Identikit @ Jun 17 2009, 12:55 PM) *
Falty DL and Few Nolder are both superb.

Love is a Liability is nice enough - it ploughs the fertile furrow between Bloscid and Foxy without breaking any new ground - no harm in that. The Few Nolder album is a totally different kettle of Herrings - I’ve only listened a couple of times but he's got a really clean, distinctive sound and the melodies are already firmly lodged in my noggin. Bit of a departure for Mu but a very fruitful one.
vurt
Haven't heard the Few Nolder album yet, but it's on the to buy list. The Falty DL album slipped past me the first couple of times I listened to it, although I haven't given it the consideration of a proper concentrated fireside chat or anything, so I'm not jumping to any conclusions just yet. Still caning the Nosaj Thing round mine, which is becoming one of my absolute favourites this year.
