Ugh... that new Booka Shade annoys me for exactly the same reason "Shimmer" off of Movements did.

There's some kind of sampling or borrowing of a melody fragment going on that's SO screamingly obviously not just 'inspired' but lifted from another track, and it makes them sound like utter hacks.

In the case of 'Shimmer' it was Villalobos - Fool's Garden, for 'Karma Car' it's about 8 different tiny pieces of Orchestra Of Bubbles(!) all rearranged just so it's not that obvious, yet my ears prick up the whole way through in a way... and absolutely nobody else except me is going be hearing it yet again. WAY annoying.

now you see why it's annoying blink.gif

that whole track feels bitty and "will this do?" to me anyway, slightly familiar parts or not I don't think the tune is much to shout about.

I've been listening to a few of these Shackleton tracks that I've scrounged up and they're pretty amazing. The Ricardo mix is dark as hell and so easy to get lost in but Shackleton on his own is immense as well. That 2CD comp is definitely going on the to-buy list, even though I'll get screwed over on import prices.

Yeah, even though Ive bought all the skull disco 12s and some of his other releases Ive still ordered Punishments for the 2nd CD. Ive listened to the RV mix a few times today and Im loving it. Although it sounds great at high volume out of a system I didn't really get the full effect of the trademark micro-edits until I took out into the park on my headphones. A big mnml artist reworking a big dubstep tune was a logical and inevitable development but Im so glad that it was this man and this tune because Ive got great affection for both...

It cannot be denied that,
As a spectacle,
It is a realisation of the mind.

I just hope he makes a habit of turning all my dubstep favourites into rolling tribal epics.
Qawwali next please Ricardo.

I think the only things missing from the Punishment CDs are the Villalobos remix (See previous page), Stalker;Shackleton's first release from back in 04 (Ive got it on a rough trade comp but couldn't find it tonight) and an unreleased Appleblim track called Gold And Silver.

Listening to all this I cant believe that Soundboy Punishments is retailing at just a tenner.

Yeah, hopefully mine will arrive in the next couple of days. I think you could get it for 14.50 including postage to NZ from the Skull Disco site....don't know if that compares favourably with Boomkat.

Here is the unreleased Appleblim track from the 2nd CD of Punsihments....one of his best me thinks.

Yeah, Kittenz and thee Glitz is essential listening. It's a shame that he got caught up in the rise and fall of electroclash (even though it probably helped him out quite a bit at the time) because now that album has been forgotten by way too many people. It's not that it's underrated, it's just that it's not even rated anymore. (Should have made this list, for example, but didn't).

Devin Dazzle and the Neon Fever is a great follow up, too wierd for a lot of people who expected more of the same from Kittenz. I remember that a lot of people here loved it when it came out but no one's said much about it for the last two years at all.
The Good Dr Bill
album is mad hard to listen to all the way through, but "What She Wants" and "Ready 2 Wear" were quite fabulous

That second Felix album has four or five great songs on it, but it's not an altogether stunning album. There's stuff on there you wouldn't want to go without, though. Especially, considering his current status, Mr. James Murphy.

Any thoughts in the house on Ellen Allien @ Fabric or Whistleblower?
Bruegs
I Went to DMZ on Saturday which was as throbsome as ever despite some technical difficulties (Appleblim is fast becoming my #1 shit and that place is attracting a better class of ass by the fortnight). After a brief period of recuperation I got back on "it" for most of Sunday and eventually washed up in one of those despicably trendy east-end all-dayer rave-up establishments, frequented largely by people I suspect to be drug users. It was the perfect setting, both mental and physical, to hear the following tune. Listening to it again this morning brought it all flooding back so I needed to share.....

Whilst Im on a Hans-Peter tip here is Reinterpretations. The CD collects the alternative versions that Lindstrm and Prins Thomas recorded whilst working on their eponymous debut in 2005 and throws in the b sides from the 12s for good measure. So, while most of the materials been heard before, its nice to have the more danceable portion of their collective oeuvre collated on a single disc.

Controversial but: this Can cover > I Feel Space.

In fact, listening to this intensively for a couple of days has confirmed what I have long suspected - I prefer their collaborative stuff to either of their solo output. Dont get me wrong, I love them both, but something magic happens when they bang heads.

Wow, congrats! You're the first person to post a Utah Saints song on SOMB!

But seriously, nice one that man. If I had any money on my card, I'd Paypal you three quid for a beer. Who am I kidding, a Lindeboom is 3.30 in Leeds; I daren't guess what you'd have to remortgage for a beer in Lizzondon. I might send you a comp CD of your choosing instead, if you are so inclined. Speciality: nasty guitary stuff that goes bang in the late 90s.

I went bang in the late 90s so I could probably relate. Coming from the BẰRMY SẰB the sentiment tastes just as sweet as the lindy and Ill stand you a flagon of the foaming stuff the next time you're down.

Saints still sounding peachy........makes me feel like donning a pair of black knee-lengths and getting a viciously asymmetrical haircut.
