I don't get it. I'm not very into the Pantha Du Prince. I'm reallllly enjoying the Denzel + Huhn. I really like the repetition and the usage of skipping and clicks and bleeps. It's a pretty interesting listen I think. I found that the Pantha Du Prince was a little bit boring. Am I missing something everyone else seems to be saying its awe inspiring?

Although i do love the PdP and can't help you there, i do find that D+H seems to be getting snubbed around these parts. I agree that Paraport is very good. Not only is it interesting because it is different, but it also has this great electronic-noir (electronoir?) vibe. That being said, keep in mind that the two albums are quite different, thus a mixed response makes sense. Speaking of which, the two albums are literally as different as night and day; Paraport is a "night" album and This Bliss is a "day" album. My hypothesis is that listening to either album at the proper time of day amplifies its awesomeness tenfold.

This should have been our Biggest WTF Song of the Year. But instead we chose two Fergie songs (why bother?) and some Gwen Stefani song that I've never heard. Apparently those really blew our minds last year.
Artem
you mean wtf in a good sense, right?

It can be used in a good sense too, a fact that's lost on many.

went to that thing yesterday night. had to go on my own cos all the people i know here can't take more than 1 hour at a club. it was good. lots of weird house, kind of dubby and trancey in places. pryds was pretty cool. played a lot of his own material, i think. he played "depeche mode - everything counts (oliver huntemann and stephan bodzin dub" in his set. that track kicks ass live. i tried mixing it myself in a set that i'm practicing on and though it sounded good and was really surprised that he played it.

oh and the place with a capacity of 2000 people was sold out, which i found odd. had to buy a guest ticket from as scalper dude.

and british people are hella funny at clubs. there's so many old people raving up the party like a mothefucker. really cool dudes.

would someone be so kind to hook me up with Ricardo Villalobos - Thè au Harem d'Archiméde, please? can't seem to find a working link anywhere.

I'm flashing back with some good time oldies this morning. "Talk in a Danger" by Luomo is such a hot jam, it's ridiculous.

What does this sound like Artem? I saw it a little while back but never got around to downloading it.
Artem
my ears are still buzzing from club, so i haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. sorry. i'll get back at you when i'm able to listen to music again.
Artem
nevermind. gave it a listen. and it pretty much sounds like what you'd expect from kompakt. easy on the ear tech-house. the first track is kind of nice.

you won't miss anything if you download it if you've already heard 10+ other kompakt releases.

very average. pretty much the direction that the kompakt had for a while now.
Artem
request:

i'm in need of some good house/techno tracks. i'm trying to make a minimal mix with some edge to it. i'd appreciate if you could uppload some tracks that you like hearing on the dancefloor.
Twilight
What, you're a DJ now?
Artem
how you sait it, an aspiring one.

i've been messing with software for a while, listening to mixes trying to pick up things. ordered a book on how to dj too. and now this guy who heard me say that i'm trying to learn how to dj wants me to play a party for a bunch of russian speaking students at our uni. none of those people i know are into electronic music or clubbing, so i'm kind of whatever. it's not like they're gonna dance or anything. but i'm trying to make a decent mix anyway, at least to test myself in case anything goes further than just words.

so yeah, give me some good tracks please.

Do you want hardcore house/techno, or techno on the verge of listenable?
Artem
i don't want to make people leave the place, so something as you say on the verge of listenable would be great.

also if anybody has any recommendations about ones first DJing gig- share please.

play to the crowd
Artem
as i've already said these people can't hande 30 minutes at a club. they have no interest in electronic music whatsoever. i think i need to get some of those ear friendly kompakt singles and spin them for them. make it sort of a lounge bar kind of experience. and if anybody gets up on their feet maybe i'll put something more engaging, if i can find it of course.
_jon
If you haven't yet, you might want to dig into the Crosstown Rebels releases. There's a few loungey tech-house singles, good stuff. Also, Swayzak's Loops From the Bergerie is pretty nice. "Another Way" is so fucking dreamy .There's a few tracks with vocals which might ease people into dance music and whatnot.

The thing is I like to play dramatic tunes for mind numbing drunk nights, and I don't know if this might work for you.
Artem
could you give some examples
boobs
if you prefer, he could just DJ for you via the internet
Artem
not necessary
all i'm asking is for a couple of tracks to give me an idea about some sounds i might use

Well, for starters, references to drugs and alcohol are always present in my mixes. I LOVE the Pet Shop Boys' "You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You're Drunk (Atta Boy Still Love You When We're Sober). !!!'s, "Take Ecstasy With Me is" a good one too. "Haunted House" by Matt 101 off the Disco Nouveau series has this hypnotic sound that's just "screams party." I can't really think of many off the top of my head. I'll upload some of these later on today.
Artem
!!! and pet shop boys and exaclty techno, so i'm not sure how they would fit in my mix.

i found a swyzak cd on some blog, but it's a different release from the one that you've mentioned, but i'll still give it a try.

as i've already said these people can't hande 30 minutes at a club. they have no interest in electronic music whatsoever.

I've heard good club mixes of "My Love," "Crazy," and "Irreplacable" that might work well. They'd be instantly recognizable to most people there and would make them want to dance a lot more than any Kompakt stuff would. Problem is, I don't know who's responsible for them, and I've either just heard them on the radio at night or found them online by searching for something generic like "SexyBack remix" or something like that.

Add to that the Braxe remix of "Bossy" and JLC remix of "When You Were Young" (although I'd hate to see the awkwardness of what would happen if you played something that ebullient to a room that wasn't into it to begin with) and you've got some good building blocks to work with.

I hate to just recomment Britney Spears and 50 Cent but if these kids are Russian, that's probably what they're goign to already know and like.

I hear the russians are really into mike mareen

Artem
no idea who that mike mareen is.

and in reply to undo's suggestions, i don't wanna play something that i wouldnt play for myself regardless of whether it will sound accessible to some or not. never liked pop-techno mixes. the knife mixes are all right, but the killers mixes aren't something that i'd like to play. and it's not that people are more familiar with 50 cent, it's just that none of them really cares about electronic music.

here's what i have in mind:

luomo - really don't mind
justus koehncke - advance
marc houle - bay of figs
gui boratto - gate 7
booka shade - in white rooms

but what i'd really like to play is something like depeche mode - everything counts (oliver hunteman mix). dark, weird. minimal but heavy.

what does rolling suppose to mean there?

Ecstacy sometimes gives you a rolling sensation.

Artem, as far as your DJing goes, why don't you make your mix for the board and see how everyone responds.
Artem
i'm using a trial mixing software that will not allow me to save my mixes. and i'm only in the process of collecting a decent amount of tracks so at this point i'm not completely satisfied with what i mix. plus, i started like 2-3 months ago.
Ben
Digging out some older german mixes this morning. Here's a track that never got enough love

Ocker - New York FM
http://www.yousendit.com/download/1Sd3nOwA4oB5TA%3D%3D

It has robot voices.

Also, improve your mix by adding an Iron Maiden track.

Here's one I know SG should dig just on principle. I guarantee the vocals would sound raging over a serious beat.

Erdmobel - in den schuhen von audrey hepburn (in the shoes of audrey hepburn)

why 'not surprisingly'?

kompkat's quality album wise has been decreasing steadily, i think. i mean, i know that you'll say that i shouldn't expect a good album from a singles oriented genre and all that. but i think kompakt really need to raise their album standarts a bit. compare playhouse and kompakt, for example.

Dude, seriously. Yes those may have been good albums but they didn't push dance music in any new directions and they weren't poppy. Historically that has been the function of dance full lengths, especially LP's that rely mostly on 4/4. None of those albums have pop moments that will make me remember them five minutes from now, let alone a couple of years.

Some adivce:
Don't be a label whore. Many artists themselves don't stick with one label.
Go to more clubs. Even if they are lame you never know when your gonna hear a good set or good single.
