Many of the legendary bands have come out of the British Isles in the past generation, and many other great bands have come out in the past decade. The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, etc. are quickly becoming this generation's musical influences just as Gang of Four, Joy Division/New Order, and Oasis did in the decades prior.
So, my answer is obvious (The Libertines), but I'm curious as to who you all think is the best.
I guess this could also be taken as a reccomendation's thread as well.

I can get on board with this. Probably will eat (or edit) these words eventually, but I'll take
Carrion/Blackout/Lately over probably any other three song arc on a brit album from the last decade.

considering my fave albums are from 95 & 97... they're def on the cusp, but i'm def not even remotely as into them as i was from 94-98
edit: gotta say i'm REALLY surprised w/ how much people on here love The Futureheads. i enjoy the album a good deal, but def wore thin on me after a few months. def a lot more UK rock records i dug last year more than theirs i guess.

since 96? Sixteen that come to mind, most not mentioned: Belle and Sebastian, Radiohead, Basement Jaxx, Beta Band, SFA, Gorky's, Boards of Canada, Chemical Brothers, Pulp, the Clientele, Broadcast, Girls Aloud, Sugababes, Delgados, Godlfrapp, Roll Deep Crew (tho you wouldn't know it from the lp).
Plus Herbert and the Streets and Dizzee and loads of people who deserve mention but would spark a bunch of 'they're not a band blubbering'...

Best British band of the last ten years is easily Radiohead. They released their two best albums in the last decade, and they are two fucking crackers. A collection of their b-sides would beat most other bands from Britain. Fuck yeah.
In terms of other bands, Iron Monkey released nothing but brilliance. They didn't reach the heights of Kid A, but were fucking solid, and rocked infinitely more than the crap that gets pushed as 'rock' these days. Manic Street Preachers' good output in the last decade was limited to one single. So, as good as that single was (very), they are not contenders.
Warp is home to a lot of decent contenders, from Boards Of Canada, through Broadcast to Autechre. Even though he's really Brazillian, I want to mention Amon Tobin, because he fucking rules. Doves are really good, and Elbow are pretty much a boring version of them. I think the Beta Band was better than either. And Mogwai's last album was fucking killer.
But yeah, Readiohead.

Yep. I want to be a Blur fanboy and throw Blur into the mix, as well. But if we're going 1996-2006, the case for Blur's a bit harder to make. Pulp shouldn't be anywhere near the conversation since
This is Hardcore is great obviously, but after that... you've got the underrated-but-still-a-step-down
We Love Life and that's it. Doves have only been around for half the decade, so I don't think they can seriously be considered. It's like doing a "Best Band of the '90s" poll and saying Nirvana. Maybe they epitomized the '90s and their high points were great, but you've gotta give credit for longevity and growth and actually lasting the entire decade. It's telling (and maybe sorta sad in a way) that not one person has mentioned Oasis. Not that they deserve to be mentioned, mind you, but who could have predicted that downfall.
And am I the only other person who really likes Elbow on here or what?
