Great job, GDB! I noticed that "Laugh, Laugh" by Beau Brummells and I think, "My Girl" by The Temps were in the sub-250. Weren't these released in early 1965? Both American acts,so the typical delays in British domestic releases don't apply.

If these, or any others ranked lower than 250 were listed in the total tally, could we still vote for them in "65-74 poll?

I can get you the rest, Dan:

# 218 The Drifters - There goes my baby
# 090 Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - Mickey's Monkey
# 054 Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - You Really Got a Hold on Me
# 022 Dionne Warwick - Walk on By

I think so, I didn't much quibble with release dates for singles that didn't make the poll.

Yes, only songs that made the top 250 are totally inelligible. Anything else is fair game (assuming, of course, that it's in some way arguable as being a '65 - '74 single).

How is it a "supposed list of 50's songs"? It's a 50-64 poll, plain and simple.
Nice work GDB.

Well, it was a predominantly 50's poll (10 yrs as opposed to 5). I don't know what the percentage of actual 50's songs was, but it was a fair bit.
Not complaining, just sayin'...
The Good Dr Bill
Breakdown by year (this is including b-sides, so it adds up to 301, not 250)

'50: 5
'51: 4
'52: 3
'53: 2
'54: 7
'55: 14
'56: 33
'57: 22
'58: 27
'59: 15
'60: 18
'61: 20
'62: 33
'63: 39
'64: 59

And by half-decade:

'50 - '54: 21
'55 - '59: 111
'60 - '64: 169

so yeah, kinda very skewed. Inevitable, though (and not necessarily regrettable).

not so horribly skewed really. Biggest issue is 59 songs from 1964. Early 50's was pretty sparse rock-wise, and rockism or no, this board ain't a jazz or early 50's pop or country board. 1956 trailed only '63 and '64, and '63 only had 6 more songs. Not bad.

And all you naysayers for the Kinks having 2 tracks so high in the poll - the reason is simple - there aren't that many "modern" rock songs eligible. For many around here there just isn't the knowledge of the 50's stuff, so the stuff that's modern enough to be played on current or recent radio formats will do better than stuff that isn't. That and both songs are great.

Thank you so very much, man!

So now I have it complete, is there people interested in me uploading packages of this (50 each)?
Hm... I guesss I'll just start doing it for all the people who was late.

+ + +

Things I didn't know at all and that from now on I truly love:

- What'd I say from Ray Charles, specially for the instrumental intro.
- Eddie Cochran: Summertime Blues (well, his tracks in this list are all huge)
- The Supremes: Where did our love go. Well, I did know it, but I love it even more now that I have it.
- Santo & Johnny: Sleep Walk. What a great discovery. Thanks for this guys. Aaahhh...
- Pipeline, from The Chantays. Another great instrumental.
- Etta James: At Last. I think I already said it. I get goose bumps with this one.
- The Ventures: Walk, don't run. I just knew John Barry's version. This is so great.

... and many many more

Thanks again!!!

Tell 'em. I'll defend the country - believe it or not, it has a lot more in common with the rock than you'd think - but I do wonder why some of you felt that this list needed more pop (Esquivel) or jazz records.

thanks for the re-ups.
I just miss this one:

# 141 Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - Shop Around

Apart from that John Lee Hooker... is there another track that should be replaced?

Hank Williams - Cold Cold Heart (58 kbps)
The Monotones - Book of Love (64 kbps)
Frankie Ford - Sea Cruise (96 kbps)
Irma Thomas - Wish Someone Would Care (96 kbps)

The Del Shannon is from a oldies comp. It's much crisper. It's the real deal...trust me.

And...I'll bet Bruce would not say the Flamingos song sucks.
Rob Gordon
I've been listening to the songs and here's a couple more you might want to replace....
Booker T's Green Onions is from the American Graffiti soundtrack and thus has Wolfman Jack talk over the tail of it....so here's a clean copy in beautiful 320....

I also noticed that Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley must come from some sort of documentary because he starts talking at the tail of this one....again...here's a clean one of that in 320 as well....
