As far as I'm concerned, Pajo's credibility disappeared forever when he joined Zwan.

I can't wait to get home tonight so I can hear that track, I've been waiting for this stuff to trickle out for awhile now.

I see they have four mp3s up on their website now too...

ooh, thanks, couldn't get there here at work

This band is beyond ridiculous. I've always been open to hipster metal (Early Man, The Sword, Saviours), but this is just plain embarrassing.

Pajo's doing metal? Fucking hot. I can't wait for this Portable to get done so I can give it a listen. happy.gif

Hmmmmm. This song isn't very good.

Yeah, this is terrible.
Insane
Nice name. Terrible band.

the music is fine, it's the 80's metal vocals that i'm not so sure about... but they remind me of Belladonna a bit, which isn't all bad

This could be a hell of a lot more than it is.

Suddenly maybe I'm not as excited to hear this. Wait, yes I am. From my very brief conversation with Pajo several years ago and several interviews I've read, he seems to have an honest and true love of metal - so I don't think its all about hipster tokenism. Plus he's an insanely talented musician, so I could see it being pretty good. But when many of the SOMB's biggest metalheads say it sounds awful, that does give me cause for concern.

it is very simplistic, and definitely bordering on "big dumb rock", but in this case i don't mind it so much...

like i said, i'll judge it when i hear more of their stuff, but i'm certainly at least intrigued at the notion anyway.

like Alkie, i don't see this as being some faux-hipster metal type thing. if you took away the bands prior credentials i don't think that would be nearly as big of a sticking point...

I do not doubt Pajo's love of metal. I accuse him not of 'hipster tokenism' (nor do I use the word 'hipster' when not quoting other people. Or talking about trousers). I think he generally rules, from Shark Cage to working with Tortoise, to a grand cover of 'Last Caress'. My only objection is that I think the song is a bit poor.

By all means check it out; I think it's swell when people like things that Pajo does. I am just disappointed is all. Then again, I never liked Angelblood either.

And if I may say so: People from Crain should definitely know better.

That hipster tokenism thing was aimed at Sask's comments, I guess this just doesn't rub me as something as blatant as say, I don't know, Early Man (which is still sorta enjoyable in its own right). But I too am a huge Pajo fan, Zwan or no Zwan.

Its main problem is that it's not big and dumb enough, it doesn't project the grandiosity necessary to pull it off...instead, it sounds awkward. It sounds torn between a serious underground thrash homage and goofy retro metal.

I don't doubt these guys' love of metal for a second, but considering how defensive the majority of metal scenesters are when it comes to alt-rockers moonlighting as headbangers, they are going to rip this to pieces.

Truth. Man, Crain was so awesome. "Hey Cops!" is one of my favorite songs of the 90s.

yeah but who the fuck cares what they think anyway? wink.gif

i agree it could sound BIGGER, but i do like the sound regardless...

my biggest complaint about this track is the vocals, and mostly just when he starts doing the higher pitched parts, the other stuff sounds passable

Precisely. I love Andrew WK, RTX and stuff like that. I'm just not sure what they were going for with this. Maybe if it was so insane and overdriven like John Zorn's absolutely classic track 'Leviathan', I could dig it. That is a 50 year old dude making one of the heaviest songs I have ever heard.

If anyone wants, I will up it. It's deranged.
Saskadelphia
I'd rather the indie kids listened to Lordi. That album is gloriously big and dumb.
