Care to describe, Alzado?

from AMG:

QUOTE
Review by Jeff Tamarkin

The Dead Will Walk, Dear is one creepy little record. Without ever breaking a sweat or rising above a near-whisper--not since the Cowboy Junkies came onto the scene has a band gone about its business so quietly and sloooowly--the National Lights proffer 10 songs of death and sex and blood and guns and bodies and bones and water and not much else. Jacob Thomas Berns is the writer and singer whose above-named obsessions occupy the brief songs (the entire album clocks in at less than a half-hour), an all-acoustic affair that finds Berns and Ernest Christian Kiehne, Jr. handling the various guitars and other stringed instruments, with the occasional keyboard tossed into the mix. The only other member is Sonya Maria Cotton, whose delicate harmonies soften up the already-pretty-soft melodies. The characters who inhabit National Lights' tunes aren't necessarily folks you'd want to invite over for brunch: the dude who wants to "Mess Around" is well aware that the messee is underage, but hey, "I guess that's fine," he reasons. And when the singer kills off, well, a whole lot of people in one song or another, let's just say he doesn't get too upset about it. Oddly enough, though, The Dead Will Walk, Dear is actually kind of a fun record, not as depressing as it would seem to be on paper. Had the same stories been told by a death metal band, the morbidity factor would be a given. But Berns and company are so weirdly cheerful in their dreariness, and there's such a warm quality to the seamlessness with which it's all tied together, that these folkish missives never really get under your skin, so to speak. Even as he addresses the lover he's just offed in the leadoff track, "Better For It, Kid," Berns just keeps strumming along merrily, so blasé you figure he must have had a good reason.

ever notice pitchfork loves when artists throw "werid" noises into more traditional songs. like if Funeral had some werid distorted kid in the background on a track or a warped computer noise that fucker would be a 10.0.

I am coming away very impressed with this album. It has a Little Feat/Steely Dan sound but at the same time has these great Afro-Funk/Latin Horns. Its really a fusion of so many different sounds and just simply plays. "who cares what you know" sounds like a Ringo-Beatles tune mixed with some Hound-Dog Taylor (although it does have George Harrison slide feel as well) and then they go into "Got to Let Go" which is like Fela Kuti horns mixed with Steely Dan. Really great album.

I don't expect this request to get much traction here, but here goes:

Has anyone come across the b-sides "True Blue" and "It's Hard to Say 'I Do' When I Don't" from the new Fall Out Boy album? The various international and domestic releases had different b-sides (some digital-only), and I'm still trying to get ahold of those. OiNK doesn't have 'em, and I'm wondering if they won't because they might have been in lower-quality digital formats that won't transfer well to MP3. Anyway, if you have 'em or have seen 'em, please let me know.

Many thanks!

Reykjavik (Iceland) based outfit Gus Gus (trio of Biggi Veira, Earth and President Bongo) are set to release their fifth studio album early next year on their own imprint Pineapplerecords. Titled "Forever", the LP will contain twelve new tracks - as usual - in Gus Gus' trademark, dancefloor-friendly style.

The guests on the album include Daniel August, Detroit ace Aaron Carl, Pall Oskar and Omar Gudjonsson, among others. Remixes and recombinitations were (and are gonna be) handled by Moonbootica, Diringer, Mark Bell, Thor, DMS, Patrick Chardronnet, Tim Deluxe, Jack Schidt, Greg Churchill and of course the in-house crew: Biggi Veira and the albino President Bongo.

The album will also include track 'Mallflowers' which already received support from DJs Sasha, Andy Cato, John Digweed and many others.

Formed in 1995 and widely acclaimed as an avant-garde group of musicians and performers (started as a film/art/music collective group of 12, and through the years has narrowed down to the divine number of three), Gus Gus mixes together different mediums to create a unique musical sound. Their trademark style has an ethereal quality, combined with funky bass, drum sounds and the intelligent use of technology. Like their fellow national, Björk, Gus Gus has developed a sound that is all their own: innovative and challenging, yet accessible and even dance-floor friendly.
