Dunno if this link is still active - I'm at work so can't check it out.

It's a little patchy like the last one was, but when they put it together (like on "Invasion"), the girls can really make me swoon.

Ugh, the reactions to the Rogue Wave are very disappointing. It's that much of a downer, huh? sad.gif

I like this one. They remind me of a coed Sleepy Jackson kinda. Sprawling, ambitious songs with strings, vocal arrangements, production flourishes.

Yeah I've been looking forward to this too. Do you notice the shift though from the beginning of the album where they are trying to seem more ambitious with more instrumentation to the second half, where it sounds like a more traditional Brunettes record, sort of childish and sunny pop, minus the the vinyl snaps and crackles. Also, I remember liking B-A-B-Y more before when I would just hear it live. Still, I'm a Brunettes fan for sure so I like it.

I heard a song once by Rogue Wave I liked..iirc it was kinda trippy/psych. But I never checked more their work out.

Does anybody have Patrick Cleandenim's album?
Pavement Ist Rad
So the Rogue Wave record really is disappointing, huh? I hope I like it more than you guys... I hope. Probably not, though! I'll listen, anyway.

Out of the Shadow was a pleasant surprise in 2004, and Descended Like Vultures is destined to be some sort of lost fucking classic. Every song on that album is just total indie pop/rock perfection, right? Fuck yes.

it's not BAD per se... starts out well enough, but by the end there's just not enough to keep my interest as it mellows out and darkens a bit.
Pavement Ist Rad
See, but that's how I felt about Descended Like Vultures. And Out of the Shadow. And I recall a shitload of other posters having similar experiences. They were like, the ultimate grower albums.

ah... Vultures didn't have to grow on me at all.

i just don't think there's nearly as great of hooks on this one really
Pavement Ist Rad
Fuck, I hope that a month from now, you're wrong.

I'm listening to that new Liars album right now! It's good stuff, of course. Is this even out yet? 2007 music albums, yeah.
solace
i hope so too..

i'm enjoying listening to it right now, so that's a good sign, it just doesn't quite excite me too much right now.
Pavement Ist Rad
Just started it. About three minutes into the first song. The parts with vocals sound a lot like the Replacements! The parts without vocals sound a bit bland, really generic indie rock like you guys are saying. They just did something cool with an electric guitar, though! Ooh, I like this part of the song.

I don't know.

EDIT: On the fifth song. It's not bad! See, the thing I love about Rogue Wave is that while they certainly play indie rock and sound like an 80s college rock radio station or something, they're not totally pussyish. They've got muscle. They are true men. And I respect them for that.
amotin
Just listened to the Rogue Wave a couple times - I'm glad to report I'm with Paves on this. Not as mind-blowing as Vultures, but it's far from a snooze. All the good things that make RW good are here, it's just missing the Publish My Love moment, and while it's too long by 10 minutes, it's not a slog to get through.

If Vultures was their Twin Cinema, then this is their Challengers.

I don't know where else to put this, but - if you like either Jay Reatard or Neutral Milk Hotel - you should go here http://www.myspace.com/titusandronicus and listen to this band, Titus Andronicus. Particularly the songs "Titus Andronicus" and "Albert Camus." If you can search through the links and find "Fear and Loathing in New Jersey" or whatever the fuck it's called, you should do that too, cause that song's really great as well. I'm gonna' predict a mid-2008 backlash against this band.

edit: here's that Fear & Loathing song.

Their 7" is eerily similar...

Yeah it is. Don't sound too similar though. I.e. Titus Andronicus = better. Not that I dislike that Frog Eyes record or anything.
