Most of the crap that we listen to nowadays won't be on our radar in a few years. Much of music nowadays, especially because of actions that take place on threads like 2007 Trout, has a shorter shelf life than it enjoyed before. There's more of it, and you have more access to it.

This is an interesting point you bring up here. I've been able to trout a lot of stuff (thanks!), but even unlike getting stuff on Soulseek, sometimes stuff just feels disposable, and only there to be catalogued as another 2007 album I have. Granted, I've found some great stuff here, like The Postmarks, The Modern Tribe, Prism of Eternal Now, and Blind Cave Salamander, but there's some stuff that I just feel like I wouldn't even get otherwise, and it ends up being meaningless to me.

People are loving the new John Fogerty solo, saying it sounds like old school swampy Creedence. Can someone up it so I can confirm?

any news on the Neil Young album?

Leaked a while ago. Surprised it hasn't been posted here yet (that I've seen). I'd do it, but it's on a different computer.

I kind of dig it... it's a nice mix of acoustic folky stuff and more rocking tracks. "Ordinary People," to me, is totally out of place and shouldn't be on the album, not just because it's a dated recording, but it just totally disrupts the flow of the record. The other 10-plus-minute track is much better, I think. Closing track's kinda weird, too, with a children's choir.

Yeah, I'm really not expecting much. I heard a couple of the songs on youtube, but I wasn't too impressed. I'm just a lifelong ny fan, so I figured I should give it a shot. If you could post the link, I would appreciate it.

Not having heard the album, I'm still convinced that it shouldn't be released, and Neil should've just released 'Ordinary People' via his site or on some EP if he really wanted to get it out there.

I love the song to death and wish like hell it would've been released back in the day as it would've given a new appreciation to his vastly underrated 80's work. I'm glad it's out now (or soon) though, because I would've hated having to wait for the third volume of the Archives series to hear it...

Neil just needs to rock out and find his rock voice again. Listen to tapes from the 2001 Crazy Horse tour of Europe. He kills on that tour, yet what we get now is the Prairie Wind voice - which is kinda like someone doing a bad Neil Young impression.

Will still buy everything he ever puts out though...

Yeah, that wasn't flash. But at least with Neil you know there's an effort. He's not like some other artists his age who either do nothing or only appear to whore some new greatest hits package that's no different to the one released the year before.

His charm is that he's still active. The music may be shit (and there's been a lot of that recently), but it still keeps coming out and if buying a crappy album because it's got only 3 good/great songs on it means that's what we get - then so be it. I still think that half of Are You Passionate? is fantastic. It's just the other half of the album turning it from a B+ to a C- (and that's being generous).

Plus, the fact that the Archives stuff is starting to roll out is, for me anyway (and a lot of other Neil freaks), great fucking news. I'll forgive Neil's shittier albums as long as stuff like the Fillmore and Massey Hall gigs keep being released.

Yeah his handling of the archives is absolutely first rate. I'd probably still go see an acoustic show in a small venue.

This isn't getting any love on the main board but I care not. It is a 2007 release and here it shall be posted.

Grizzly Bear - Friend EP

http://rapiT_Tdshare.com/files/62175154/GB-F.zip

They have a nice cover of He Hit Me (Hole), and features some collabs/covers with/by CSS, Band of Horses, Atlas Sound, Beirut and Dirty Projectors.
It's not super-special but fans of the band might appreciate the fresh takes on their songs. Or you could just round out your collection, if you're into that.

What was wrong with that one? Great fucking tour. Sure, it wasn't Crazy Horse, but what a setlist. Saw it a couple times, well worth it -- and the DVD's fantastic. Much better than the CD, which is poorly mixed.

People who say Neil's gone to shit since Ragged Glory -- which is what Montana's response to this will be -- are missing out on a shitload of phenomenal music. Sure, it's not all great, but that's never been the case for Neil... probably the spottiest of all rock 'n' roll legends.
