15 American minutes. I can't imagine this album doing anything over here. It won't even have a chance to be on TV now that The O.C. is finished.

Easily the longest 44 minute CD of the year so far. Makes that Ted Leo album feel like The Ramones.

This doesn't sound promising, I kinda liked the debut. And as far as shitty opening band slots go, I enjoyed them before the Foozer tour.

And are you referring to the new Ted Leo? I haven't listened to it yet and it sounds like you don't like it.

The new Ted Leo has its moments, but it is easily at least 15 minutes too long. Damn cd era. It'll make a great single vinyl lp.

wouldn't mind upping it would ya?

If I don't get it up tonight, I'll gladly do so over the weekend.

I listened to Employment fairly often, even though I can't say I really liked it, if that makes sense. But this one just doesn't have any hooks. Honestly, I'm not looking for growth out of a band like Kaiser Chiefs, just bring the catchy choruses lads.

And yeah, as stated above the new Ted Leo is pretty meh. It's waaaaaaaay too long and a real chore to sit through (see Impressions of Earth, First). It also doesn't help that every song is about Iraq.

Man, this is a sad moment. A few yrs ago, I saw Ted Leo play at Reckless Records, and during the build-up on "Timorous Me," I was overcome with such a rush of emotion that I had to turn to my girlfriend to stem my bewilderment.

Now, his new album's just sittin' there for the taking, and I'd just as soon work my way over to wwtdd.com.

EDIT: This is also my 1,000th post. Even sadder. I am feeling very AlkalineDrown-ish.

This record started with a simple idea: What if houses had memories? What if, when we lived in them, our stories bled into the walls and became a part of the house? What if our ghosts were always going to haunt the places we've lived, along with everyone else who's lived there? So some songs are from the point of view people still living their lives in one of these houses; some are from the point of view of those dead and gone, watching over the living or haunting them; some are from people visiting home, after being away for along time, and the familiar ghosts of childhood all coming back to remind you of the way things used to be.
All of the songs are short stories; even if again and again the narrator's voice is transmitted to the instruments, the piano, the guitars, an accordion. And in comparison to the very song-orientated debut by Electric President - 24-year-old Ben Cooper's alter ego (Radical Face) and second musical affair of the heart, Ghost, has become a songwriter-album. Or rather a song-writing album, the tracks as carefully arranged interiors, chamber folk, pocket symphonies, passionate melodies.
Ben Cooper recorded this album almost entirely alone. In a small shed in Jacksonville Beach/Florida. His recording studio. Another one of these houses full of stories. He recorded the guitars and drum-patterns, the banjos, organs and keyboards and sang in chorus with himself. He let the instruments take a deep breath and created a breathing record, a lively, warm Ghost.

Following in the footsteps of Dirty Vegas, Tom Middleton, Tim "Love" Lee, Saint Etienne, Snow Patrol, Jarvis Cocker & Steve Mackey and Joey Negro, Family Recordings present "The Triptych", an comprehensive and thoroughly enjoyable mix CD from half of the Lemon Jelly duo, Fred Deakin. Part of the ever-excellent series, "The Trip", this is by far most ambitious release yet. Devoid of genre bias or the latest fad to latch on to, "The Triptych" consists of 90 (that’s nine zero) tracks lovingly mined from Fred’s vast record collection and then mixed to perfection over three discs for your listening pleasure.

Ignore the awful name, ignore the fact that they're from Alabama but chose to spend the last four years in Santa Barbara for the music scene, ignore the fact that I found this band cause one of my childhood friends is dating the guitarist/singer. After you've ignored all that, download the album and give it a good, clear-headed listen. This is hot shit.

For some reason, I think Montana might like this, but I could definitely be wrong. RIY don't mind your alt.country and indie rock mixing a little bit, but rather have the mix lean a little more toward the country side of things. Some parts remind me of Being There-era Wilco, some parts remind me of Band of Horses, and the last song sounds like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.

You see 'em at the Greek a couple years ago? Amazing show.

...

I don't get it: are you just not a Wilco fan, or is this simply a by-product of the board's general (and unfounded) Wilco-wary/weary?

Download the album. You'll like it, and even love parts of it.

Chronodiggity
Of course I already downloaded it. You made a CYHSY reference.

Still haven't given Wilco any of my time, so not much of an opinion.

EDIT2: Listening to YHF right now, and this is so unbelievably bland, except for I'm The Man Who Loves You.

EDIT: based on unzipping it, and opening about 4 tracks, and listening to them for 10 seconds somewhere in the middle, this is Album of the Year.
EDIT2: This is better than YHF.

I really expected not to like it, but I had a full listen on the train on the way home today and it kinda was actually pretty good...ish... iiiiiiiiiiiiiii'm still reluctant.

The first time I heard the seventh or eighth song (where there's some half-rocking-out) I was thinking "this is pretty pretentious and ripoffy" and now I'm actually thinking it's more genuine than before.
