I thought he scrapped them after his friendship with Jon Brion fell through. I don't think he liked the songs after that event.

But Jesus Christ I would do anything to hear them.

If you guys don't have the Basement 2 Demos, i can fish them for you... Said demos include most of what's on "New Moon"... Possibly all of it.

New Moon is basically a collection of songs Elliott recorded between '94 and '97; basically songs that didn't make the self-titled or Either/Or albums. There are plenty of leftovers from Basement, since he was planning on making that a double-album at one point and you can find that stuff out there, thanks to sites like elliottsmithbsides.com, which has been a treasure trove of unreleased tracks over the years.

Yeah I've dug around for everything the man ever recorded. There's still about an albums worth of songs that he did with Jon Brion that really nobody's heard besides Elliott and Jon.

I've raped and pillaged elliottsmithbsides.com over and over.

The most recent stuff I got was the four songs released with "True Love" and "Talking to Mary" and a couple others. Also, "Attack of the Crab Monster" is the most bizarre instrumental track I've ever heard, especially in comparison to Elliott's bittersweet pop.

Hmm... Tupac would be the gangsta Nick Drake, in my opinion... Elliott Smith may be following in both their footsteps. That would be ok, though, since Tupac released some of his best work after he "died"... If Smith does that, i'll be one happy camper...

And Johnny, i'll get that Wilco up, maybe tonight... Can't do it now.
