Eh... I dated a few from Czech and Ukraine. The candy factor is great for the first couple weeks. The looks are for the most part are well above average, and nothing pisses off your friends more than showing up to a party with some gorgeous Ukraine blonde with that accent. But something is just missing. Maybe I just dated the wrong ones. Personality seems to be in short supply - especially if they are born again (which many of them are, embraced and introduced to heavily religious U.S. communities based on roots from their home countries). After picking that vine, I decided I just like good ole' American sluts.

One of my exes, "Oksana" was a perfect example. Absolutely gorgeous, both body and face. Unfortunately I found out she was a born again a week into the relationship. I met her at Borders in Wheaton (a heavily religious nut job town - Borders was always a great place to pick up women). About a week after dating, we went to rent a movie, and I asked her if she had seen "Predator" (with Ahnold). She replied that " she didn't watch movies that did not have God's creatures", whatever the fuck that meant. That was the first red flag. Then she started trying to get me to go to that big church in Barrington (Willow I think it was). I went a few times just because she looked great in lingerie (Victoria Secret model great). Those church visits were incredibly painful, but sacrifices have to be made. She was a pretty good girlfriend I guess, cooking me breakfast and dinner, really attentive and ok in bed. Then 9/11 happened. A couple days later I asked her on the phone what she though of it all and she said that "we had it coming because we allow abortion and gays". I got off the phone as fast as I could and never called her back. She called a few times asking what was going on and I said I just wanted to be friends. She demanded we meet to talk and I agreed. So we talked, she tried to kiss me and I had to refuse. From there the calls just kind of fizzled out as they often do.

That's why I am not really attracted to Eastern European types anymore, especialy Svetlana. I could have just had a bad batch, but experience is experience.

Don't feel bad for me velocity. It's okay. I think my thread succeeded in that it got people to realize it is fucking retarded to post '07 albums in an '06 thread. There should be such a thing as consistancy - even on internet message boards. I'm also opening a Google Ad Words account today to ensure that whenever "fish" or "trout" are Googled this thread appears at the top. I'm paying for this out of my own pocket and will not ask anyone to reimburse me.

I don't think you succeeded in that at all. I think this was basically made to appease you without having a thread around saying "FREE ILLEGAL MUSIC HERE." And you still have presented no arguments against posting albums in a thread with an irrelevant title.

I wouldn't expect you to give me any credit. Mostly because you're a large-type douche bag.

The board is under no threat from the RIAA for having a thread openly advertising free downloads. Why would we not have a thread that has a title that maps perfectly to the content inside? Oh, I know, let's really throw people off and in the Now Playing thread start posting pictures of what we had for dinner! Yea, let's TOTALLY mess with people and throw off any would be evil-doers from figuring out what is going on here. These drastic times call for drastic measures.

Yeah, that's not true. Many torrent boards (even small ones) have been shut down in the past by the RIAA and MPAA. The growing trend of using file-sharing services is sure to be under the RIAA's scrutiny within the near future. And if their behavior with torrents is any indication (and also the fact that most of these file-sharing services are based out of foreign countries), it won't be the file-sharing services that get hit.

I believe it's already been completely explained why we would have a different thread title. The "Now Playing" thread doesn't contain anything the RIAA gives a shit about. It's not about hiding what's going on here, but rather not advertising it to the world. You saying you don't understand at this point implies you're either lying or an idiot.

this thread is here to talk about upcoming releases and discuss new music that is out or coming out. not to bitch about what the thread title is called or who's crying about the RIAA. i believe that belongs in...ETC perhaps? or let's start a thread that says RIAA - LOOK IN THIS THREAD FOR MUSIC. that will get some attention.

Ry Cooder - My Name is Buddy
IPB Image
From www.nonesuch.com:

Not quite two years ago, Ry Cooder was knee-deep in some ninth-inning tinkering, finishing up his forthcoming album, Chavez Ravine, when a peculiar message sailed in – one could say – from deep out-of-left-field. It arrived by way of U.S. Mail, slipped into a nondescript, manila envelope, addressed in an old friend's recognizable scrawl. Inside, he found a familiar image of the great bluesman, Leadbelly. Yet, photo-shopped in place of his face was that of a red cat; an inscrutable, seen-it-all expression hovering in his eyes. He found little else, except a web address and this note: "You'll know what to do with this."

But not right away. After some initial poking around to learn this red cat's name ("Buddy") and a bit of his vagabond story (he was found in the alley behind a record store in Vancouver, living in a suitcase, and he'd passed away in 2005), he pushed it aside to tie up pressing loose ends. But the notion had already crawled up inside somewhere deep in his imagination.

"Over time something was coming to me," he says. Propulsive rhythms and hardscrabble stories and scraps of ocher-toned melodies began to spin 'round inside. "I kept thinking 'red cat'... and I kept hearing an old Charlie Poole song – a cadence." It began to slide together. "He's a red cat – not just red colored – but he's a union man. He becomes Red." Next, a piece of lyric. 'I'm a red cat til I die...'" Soon enough, the itinerant Buddy had a back-story; some fellow travelers he meets along the road – Lefty the Mouse, the Reverend Tom Toad – a past and a future; a story to tell.

My Name Is Buddy: Another Record by Ry Cooder is, in a certain respect, Ry Cooder circling back, revisiting a body of music that has for much of his life held a certain fascination. "When I first started doing records. I thought, 'I like these old songs. These dustbowl songs.' So I made a couple of records and people thought: 'What's this?' You can't sell this.' But I kept making these things, again and again, because I knew a good song," he says. "I'd say it's taken me 40 years to get it right."

If Chavez Ravine was Ry Cooder's musical palimpsest, his re-imagining of a lost neighborhood, a lost way of life, My Name is Buddy is the next chapter revisiting those themes of displacement, disenfranchisement, deteriorating democracy – but through the story of a band of friends, in the tradition of Walt Kelly's Pogo: "Pogo to me was a roadmap to life. Animals are perfect characters because they don't say much. They're beautiful metaphors. Very solid, not so hard to understand."

Part allegory, part picaresque adventure, the album takes up where Chavez Ravine left off. It continues Cooder's examination of a disappearing America, in this case the vanishing American "working man." "Nowadays nobody wants to be called a 'working man' – an SUV driver maybe – but not a working man." But what happened to this message of unity? Of solidarity? Of fairness or justice? What happened to the notion, "we are many, they are few."? These questions put Cooder on a path revisiting the place where so many of those old stories and struggles have been stowed away for safe-keeping; the country's foundation of music – its songs of praise, of sorrow, of work, of protest, of celebration. "What do poor people sing about? Death, Jesus, Mother and what happened today. They lived in poverty or worked in the mill and got their fingers chopped off – something horrible like that – but they carried that music along with them."

Buddy's suitcase, says Cooder, is "like his trailer, his Airstream, you could say" – but his travels aren't just geographical. While the album weaves through a history of American, regional music – blues, folk, bluegrass with flavors of storefront spirituals and lounge jazz folded in, it also takes a turn through America's philosophical soul – songs of strivers, of union men, church folk and those down-at-the-heel heroes. If the music feels familiar, their melodies recognizable, they should, says Cooder. Many of them have hovered in our collective backspace for decades. "Most of these songs are based on other tunes, some of them hymns." Shot through as well are nods or allusions to Reverend Gary Davis, Earl Robinson, Harland Howard, Hank Williams, Woody Guthrie, the protest songs of labor organizer and songwriter, Joe Hill.

Like Chavez Ravine, telling a specific story freed him: "I had to forget about Ry Cooder and tell this story." (The scope's span surprised him. What didn't fit within the space of a song, become an accompanying book – the text written by Cooder the illustrations cleverly imagined and deftly drawn by artist Vincent Valdez – provides context. "The songs are a little more light- hearted," says Cooder, "and the stories, a little darker, fill in the background.")

Though, My Name is Buddy, feels authentic, like some lost artifact plucked out of time, it is full of urgent resonance. "We're not doing this," Cooder stresses, "to be nostalgic." Especially when so many of the same issues plague and flummox us today – bigotry, poverty, violence, greed, fair-access.

"I loved these songs; I love the melodies and the messages. These songs are a template," says Cooder. The idea is to craft them into something your own. "Many of these songs had a warning to the 'working man' folded in – especially those 19th Century songs in three-quarter time. It was the very reason for singing. Those songs were about topical things. They were vehicles for people who had a point to get across," says Cooder. "Otherwise, there is no point in doing it."

First, pretty much every big torrent board that was initially shut down (or threatened to be sued, etc.) has re-emerged. Take a look at Piratesbay or Isohunt. They moved the server to another country and are back up and running. The ones that will be even harder to shutdown are the ones like Oink or TVTorrents.com where you need to be invitied and logged in.

Second, if the issue is all about not advertising shit to the outside world then why don't the admins force users to log in in order to browse. This would get rid of the serach results showing up in Google or other search engines.

Do you actually think this board's servers would be moved to another country? Not bloody likely. If the board's shut down, that's likely all she wrote.

That is a good strategy when the main point of your board is downloads, for instance on the torrent sites or yahtzee. However, this is a music discussion board. The owners likely want the discussions viewable by non-members. The only viable complete solution that would eliminate all dangers would be banning fish threads altogether. But that's prolly not gonna happen.

I just wanna get some new music man. not be bitched at by some guy on a internet messege board about what kind of fish a thread should be named after.

and we don't want some jive ass bitch around here who thinks he all that.

are you talking about DrJimmy?

I like Spiritofeden. LOL@ subpar boarders bossing newbs around. I think Scary means well, just doesn't know how to get his point across without sounding like a strict librarian.

If we did this right we would have had a discussion thread, took name ideas, and then made a poll and voted on it. Boys...

it's not about seriousness, it's about you treating this board as nothing more than a place to get free music off of.
