It's a father + son + 2 band from the suburbs. I'm wondering what proper etiquette would be for encoding/etc, as I'm going to be sending this to a friend in Alaska, and posting more random stuff here. Should I use something other than y'all send the thing? What's the preferred bitrate? Artwork?

Of course, it's not like he's shaped the face of popular music in the past two years or anything.

and that's something to be proud of? Popular music now is dominated by pop stars and rap shit. Nothing that really will matter in the long run

i'm really hoping this is sarcastic.

i mean it is one thing to hate Timbaland. it is another to say that pop music and RAP! are not going to matter in the long run. rap has pretty much been the most important musical genre of the last twenty years. it's not like it is a fad.

man, that whitepony. "Pop music is dominated by pop stars", guys.

anyway I'm uploading the Battles album in a second if anyone wants it.

Windmill-Puddle City Racing Lights

found the link elsewhere. v.interesting

"...It’s an album that can in parts make you
get up and jump around the room like a complete lunatic and stop you
in your tracks the next. *****5 stars" - Gigwise.com

"....It is almost impossible to find fault here,
Stunning, fragile and amazingly powerful, this is not an album you can
afford to be without 5/5." - Rock Midgets

"...From the moment Matthew Thomas Dillon's voice stirs into action on
opener Tokyo Moon, it is obvious that Puddle City Racing Lights is going
to be a special record... a record of overwhelming grace
and beauty." - Total: Spec

"Windmill carves out deliciously homely fractured sugar pop thats not unlike a less wayward and insular Daniel Johnston trying out for the Animal Collective with the spirit of Elliott Smith hovering in the mix..."

thanks dude, this is great!
السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و ب
yeah that Windmill album is starting out pretty awesome.

Never said it was a fad and good rap has lasted PE and Rakim are 2 good examples

But I just doubt people in their 20's will be bumping 50 Cent El-P etc in their 40's

again this board is for opinions not facts especially since no one can tell the future

maybe I'll be wrong and when your in your 40's you will still love all these rap tracks that you love today and maybe you will have moved on.

I figure the majority of people will move on Rap seems to be mainly for the younger crowd

while I regard Rap slightly higher, whenever I see these kids that worship ICP at 17 and almost live for the band I think about how rediculous they will feel about how they were as teenagers and doubt any of them will like ICP when they become adults

whereas when I was coming of age I was listening to The Smiths, Nirvana and R.E.M. records that sound just as good all these years later.

And again maybe I'm naive but what is Rap besides good backround music, what does it really say about your life? Have you sold drugs? have you gang banged or shot or been shot at???

I know it's not all that but the majority is.

Yet even as an older guy I still relate to the feelings that Morrissey, Cobain and Stipe articulated so well.

And I know most think I'm just a rap basher etc but one of my fav songs currently is "Blow the Whistle" by Too Short so i'm open minded still just nothing ever seems new or fresh in the Genre

Even that Fiasco song about skating just sounds like something the Beastie Boys or Pharcyde could/would of done years ago

Hmm, can't really see many people talking about Akon in 20 years time compared to Timberland but that's like saying Radiohead don't matter because no one talks about Terrorvision anymore.

Of course, back when "Creep" was in heavy rotation on MTV in 1993, I'm sure few people thought anyone would still be talking about that cross-eyed midget with the blond hair extensions in five years' time, let alone 15, 20, 25, etc.

I do!

Also, amazed to see El-P referred to as pop music, and in the same breath as 50 Cent. Frame of reference.

Do you mean your questions on sending stuff? If so -- Sendspace and Mediafire seem to be the most popular, dependable, and practical. As for bitrate, 192 seems to please everybody, but of course, if it's higher or vbr, or something, nobody's going to complain. Artwork is preferred, of course.

I think most people enjoy Mediafire, just because there is no download limit, no wait in line, and it has a pretty fast upload/download rate.

The quick follow-up to last years self-titled debut. On last years offering, Shapes and Sizes delivered a diverse batch of songs, dabbling in everything from chamber pop to straight-up indie rockers. For their sophomore effort, they further concede to their musical restlessness, unwilling to constrain themselves to one genre. What came across as inconsistent on their debut, however, here seems perfectly coherent, and yet wildly experimental. The result is an album which often sounds something like Deerhoof, as performed by Blonde Redhead. Or something.

Really excellent stuff.
