LOVIN the Comas record.

I left it on the hard drive forever because the cover art had me expecting (yet another (god damned)) dirgey, wistful, moany, piano-heavy, standard-issue indie.
Instead its a fun lil trifle.
And daddy needs some rockin right aboot nows.

I agree with the Comas love. But I think it's better than a trifle. I'm going to be listening to this one for awhile. The lyrics cut quick and and at times to the bone. There's both melody and urgency. It reminds me of the better moments of Nada Surf and Portastatic to name but two.

Yeah I just said "trifle" becuase Im only on the second listen and I dont want to overpraise it in a way I might later regret.
I think you may be right though.
The second listen feels deeper than the first.

How does it compare to Conductor? I thought that album had some great tunes but some clumsy execution.

I haven't played Conductor in a while. I remember liking it quite a bit, but that was on the strength of 3-4 particular songs. Spells is more consistent in quality and tone.

Sounds good. The guy definitely has a talent for melodies, so I think I'll grab this from emusic.

I heard they dont like the rapper guy anymore. I just dont think i could appreciate a linkin park album if it didnt have a guy goin "what, yea" over their scratch-metal-medley... unless i was 13 again

This leaked in an I guess lower-quality version sometime last week. It's grown on me since then. Hardly anything that makes it a "Tomahawk" album, per say, might as well have been under any other Patton moniker (although I realize he's not the main songwriter on this one). Good album though.
