So what do people like listening to while driving. I find there's a certain mood that makes certain songs/albums really stand out when driving. Hard to explain.
Right before I left on a bitchin' trip to Cape Town, I was browsing the M. Ward thread and saw Solace and Ryan and a few others mentioning going for a drive with Post War, which inspired me to bring a copy along for the trip. Just needed to say thanks. I think I finally understood all the hullabaloo about this album.

Lately, the Steve Taylor discography on CDRs recently and kindly given to me by Complain, has been popped into my CD player in the car quite often.

I've got a ton of these. They're called 'cruisin tunes', by the way.

top of the list, no exceptions. a staple since high school. Punk is good fun with friends in the car, especially.
I drove a lot to these last summer:

a good midnight country drive record

Neil young is good road music.

I remember driving through rural Wisconsin one night listening to a boot of Springsteen doing Jackie Wilson's "Higher and Higher." Man, that was fun!

So many disappointing selections. I want something to liven up the experience, not boring tunes that heighten the tedium of driving.

Well put, but only up through "Corrosion". Thereafter, it's pretty much running on neutral through the gates of Hell. (not to say it's a bad ride

)
I forgot to mention "Spiders(Kidsmoke)" by Wilco. And of course, "Autobahn".

I like upbeat music to keep me entertained on the long boring drive through the barren texan countryside. Something I can sing along to and do my pseudo-car-dance. My personal favorites right now are Voxtrot, and The Body The Blood The Machine.
Once I get tired and lulled by the road, though, I usually go for The Microphones or Godspeed or YLT.

There are a few. Any Son Volt record is about as good as it gets for a road trip - especially Trace, Straightaways and Okemah. The new one is shapping up to be another Son Volt road classic.
