Is there an easy and sure-fire way to reverse the feed and take everything currently stored on the I-pod and make that the i-tunes library?
I blew it on i-tunes the other day and lost some shit and I don't want to have to do it all manually if possible. But, at least I have a back up of everything, just not the time to do it.
I would appreciate the help, especially from anyone that has actually done it before and tell me your experience and whether it is a good idea or not, assuming it can be done?

You gotta download a program like PodUtil, which will pull everything off your iPod and deposit it on your desktop (or where ever you want it). Then you can re-import it all into iTunes.

Is there a way to listen to my ipod on my computer at work without downloading itunes? We aren’t allowed to download itunes on our 'puters. Of course all the IT guys have it. They tease me about it all of the time. Jerks.

I just plug my speakers into my ipod
it isn't rocket surgery
duh. I know that. But it's a big hassle to climb under my desk and unplug it when I get sick of internet radio and then switch back when I want to listen to NPR.

here's something i've figured out, it's not too much of a hassle, and it works. plug your ipod into your computer, go to search, select pictures, music, video, click advanced options, change the look in to your ipod, go to more advanced options and select search hidden files and folders and hit the search button. you will see a bunch of funky named files, but that is your music. if you have windows media player, you can open them all up at the same time in there and it will display the correct names. caution though, it may take wmp a while to load all of the songs. this process can also be used for copying all of your music onto your hd without using a program.

You could go to Radio Shack and see if they have a "Y cord" with one end a stereo mini and the other and, a pair of female stereo mini's. You'd plug the speakers into the one female and then while at the Shack get a simple male to male stereo mini patch and plug one end into the ipod and the other into that other female. No more crawling under the desk. Unless we're meeting down there.

Go into your "My Computer" folder and open the iPod up as a drive. Choose to open the files with whatever media player you have.

I'm pretty sure if she's not allowed to download software, plugging in an HD would be considered a bad move.
Same with trying to run it through WMP. These are solutions that in worst case scenario can fuck up a computer or a network.
My idea is your best bet and won't cause problems with the bosses.

Hmm. Are you not able to plug in USB devices, Red?
Damo Suzuki
Dec 4 2007, 01:56 PM
Then as long as you can see the iPod as a drive, you should be able to open it up and play those files.
And what the hell is your IT department thinking allowing employees to have USB devices? You could be stealing company secrets or using an auto-launcher to deliver network attacks. Terrible security.

That's what I was getting at. Oh well, Damo's solution is much easier then.

My last computer didn't even have usb ports, but this one does. I'm only assuming they work. I haven't actually tried it yet.

OK, so here's my story.
I have an 80 gig iPod that I have loaded with about 13,000 songs. The purpose of it is a party in the palm of my hand. It's full of top 40, classic rock, indie hits, etc.
Now I want to buy another large storage iPod to load full of new releases and such (full albums). Right now, being old school, I've been burning onto CD's but tired of spending the money on blanks and accumulating all this plastic.
So how do I set it up with my iTunes so that I have two iPods with separate libraries?

the easiest way that i can think of would be to set up two different playlists of what you want on each ipod and then set the ipods to only sync to their playlists.
edit. but here,
this explains a few other ways to do it.

Bumped b/c
I plugged in my iPod to recharge it this morning (I have a 4 gig nano) and it froze up. It won't turn off; it won't open iTunes when it's plugged in. It won't play - it's stuck on a paused track. Everything was fine until I connected it and now it's fucked.
IS it fucked? or is there something I can do?

Can you reset it? To reset a nano, do the following:
1. Hit Hold switch-- set Hold on, and then set Hold off
2. Hold down the Menu and Center buttons at the same time. This will force the iPod to reset.
3. Your iPod should reboot to factory settings. If you have any tweaks, you may have to reenable them, but your music library should be there.

A quick google for the reset says:
Toggle the "Hold" switch On, then Off again.
Press and hold down the Menu and Center buttons for several seconds.
The unit should reset to factory defaults.

Had to take in my 80 gig ipod back to Best Buy because (according to the Apple store) the hard drive was failing. They said it will be 2 to 6 weeks before they can decide whether to issue me a new one (per the warranty) or see if the Geek Squad can fix this one.
I'm almost sure they can't fix it, so here's my question: I paid $350 for this one, which is the cost of the 160 gig ipod. Do you think they'll let me do a warranty exchange via price?

Best Buy? Geek Squad? Possibly, but I'm guessing you will need to carry an anti tank weapon to get them to listen.

You should definitely ask, I know one of my friends keeps breaking his (beyond what the Geek Squad can fix) just before the warranty runs out so he can "upgrade" as the price equivalence changes. He currently has an iPod touch, I think he started out with a 40 GB iPod back when they were $400.
