And apparently it tanked in the ratings, so don't expect too many more SNME's with the exception of the guaranteed one coming this summer that has been booked already.
I would like to see how the ratings do when they aren't up against the NCAA tournament, which no doubt had an effect.

My son is 7 years old and will be 8 in June. He's in love with Wrestling and it's my fault. Do you think getting Wrestlemania for him is a good idea? I'm a parent and I can't decide. He fake wrestles his stuffed bear and has action figures and wrestles his cousin. I am trying to initiate a "you must read a book before you can watch RAW" type rule. I also fast forward through chick matches and Mr. McMahon doing bad things. He sometimes fastforwards himself because he knows it's bad. I almost took all wrestling away completely because he was freaked out after seeing a wrerstler bleed once.

One thing at a time:
Faxman: The Edge/Foley match alone is bound to be upsetting to your son at WM22. The buildup alone has had a lot of blood in it. Not to mention the Boogeyman, who grosses ME out (though, I can imagine that, to a kid, he may get some laughs!) Obviously, its your call (and I continue to find it strange how VKM both markets to kids with the teddy bears, toys, etc. and yet pushes the product solidly into adult territory, hence causing the confusion you and your son must feel), and I know a lot of kids DO watch so you don't want the little one to feel left out if his friends can see it but he can't. Maybe order it, and cover your eyes during Edge/Foley and other harsher stuff, or explain to your kid the reality/entertainment divide in light terms. I know, at that age, I totally thought it was 100 percent real, and telling me otherwise was like telling me Santa Claus wasn't real. But if you approach it as fun and explain why Junior shouldn't play with thumbtacks and fire, maybe you'll be OK. Perhaps order it, tape it, and watch it with him the next day, giving yourselves fast-forwarding abilities.
Or...if you have a DVR or TIVO, order it, start watching 90 minutes after it starts from the beginning, and fast-forward the Edge/Foley match or the Boogeyman stuff.
Without Opinion: He's back. As Steve Borden, his real name. Sans makeup. He was assaulted by Scott Steiner not too long ago.

thanks for the tips Diesel. He kinda likes to get grossed out by the boogyman. I've had the wrestlings like the movies and they have to practice all those moves discussion and we've watched all the "don't try this at home" stuff. I just try and get past the selacious stuff. It just seems so random at times. Another time I crings is when Edge and Lita get screen time. Connor really loves Mark Henry, Rey Mysterio and Rob Van Dam. Besides Henry, the other two are decent role models. Surprising considering one was stoned all the time and called himself the whole effin' show.

I haven't heard it, but am well familiar with Dave Meltzer's work and the Observer newsletter. Its like the New York Times of wrestling dirtsheets. The only thing that kinda bugs me about Meltzer is that he seems to forget the entertainment factor that's such a big part of U.S. wrestling. I mean, obviously the guy knows that its staged, yet he has that star rating system, which I just don't get. I don't understand assigning an objective standard to something as obviously staged as `rassling is. It also seems to be taking it TOO seriously, because his system only accounts for in-ring work. Not to say in-ring work isn't important, because ultimately the best wrestlers are the ones who can deliver in the ring AND on the mic, but I just think Meltzer needs to lighten up a little bit. Not everyone watches or even gives a fuck about Japanese wrestling. Yeah, it's awesome, but I'm not gonna pay for weekly tapes, either. I can appreciate a solid, technical match, but, as I've been groomed on U.S. wrestling, I need MORE than that...I need to be able to care about the combatants, their personalities, and WHY they're fighting. What's at stake? This kinda goes back to the points we were making about UFC earlier in the thread, except for the whole "IT'S TOTALLY GAY LOL" thing.
Anyway, Wrestlemania should be decent. If every match is worked decently, and we get satisfactory endings to matches/storylines and a minimum of bullshit, it should be worth it. Certainly, the pieces are in place for a good show. Maybe not a GREAT show, but a solid one. But I'm sure my experience seeing it live will be totally different.

Alright...returned from the ROH show.
Honestly, I think they're really, really overrated by the "smart marks" and Internet fans. With the exception of the TNA guys, most of those wrestlers looked like total jokes that couldn't even make it in a dark tryout match before RAW. Jack Evans? Jimmy Jacobs? Gimme a fuckin' break. Dudes looked and wrestled like total jobbers.
And even the guys I went to see didn't impress that much: A.J. Styles barely even got into the ring during his match, so I mercilessly heckled him. He shouted something back to me at some point, but I couldn't make it out. And mind you, I FREAKING LOVE A.J. Styles. But he let me down...I felt like kinda an idiot, because I've been talking the guy up FOR MONTHS, but someone who didn't see him wrestle in TNA and went to this show just on the strength of his rep would have been really let down.
Samoa Joe and Chris Daniels wrestled a decent, if too short, match with the aforementioned Jacobs, who barely looked like he belonged in the same ring. I did get my money's worth with the Dragon's Gate guys from Japan, who put on a PHENOMENAL match, the best of the night by far, but what does that say about your promotion when you're getting shown up/schooled by guys you imported?
And, yeah, I know that maybe I need to see more ROH, and this was my first show, and everyone has an off night, and I wasn't properly introducted to the angles, etc., but if it was REALLY the awesome fed everyone makes it out to be, I wouldn't need to be. I knew I would love ECW based on the first PPV I saw of theirs (Hardcore Heaven `97), which, honestly, was one of their worst shows. But there was enough there to get me going back. Not so much with the vaunted ROH. Honestly...only the TNA guys held my attention in any real way (beyond the Japanese dudes), and if I want to see them, I'll just, well, WATCH TNA.
So, yeah, it was pretty disappointing. Not a bad show, but really not above the level of your average low-rent Indy fed. I'll just wait for TNA to do house shows, I guess.

Apr 1 2006, 02:03 AM
I don't think you will have to wait to long to see TNA house shows. They had a huge success in Detroit but of course it's kinda sad that it was due largely in part to the blood sweat and tears promotion the Insane Clown Posse do in their home town. As hated as the band is for their music the are simply a fantastic self promotion machine that brings in the people. Their fans are a dedicated little cult and I know because I was a juggalo and still kinda have clown love. To may they are a couple of the biggest wrestling fans that make all kinds of crap from music to action figures for fun and profit. They took their money from their first album and purchased a wrestling ring and put it in thier backyard.
I heard something about a Jim Cornett interview regarding the boogyman and wwe and how slammed both. I'm going to go read.
Oh, and the first time I saw ECW was on their crappy little t.v. show and I fell in love immediately then I attended Anarchy Rules in 1999 Villa Park. Fantastic show! Loved the tripple threat match between Tazz (who was questionable to even show), Tanaka and Mike Awesome. I miss ECW alot. Nothing better than the RVD v.s. Jerry Lynn matches.

Yeah, ROH overall was decent, but not amazing. The highlight for me was the AJ Styles tag match (and not really for Styles) followed by the fucking phenomenal DragonGate match. Those two combined were worth the price of admission. The rest of the card felt really phoned in. And how bout that main event. Probably one of the worst, most boring things I have ever seen except for the spot where he dove into the crowd. That was pretty cool. The other 55 minutes of it, however were shit.
The only saving grace that kept me there for the main event were the two guys sitting right behind me who were yelling shit the whole match. Everyone was obviously irritated by them, starting the "shut the fuck up" chant at them, but my dad and I were in stitches. Especially when the one black dude started talking about how much everyone there probably hated John Cena, so he would yell "WORD LIFE, THIS IS BASIC THUGANOMICS" or start yelling out "Big Time!" in honor of Wrestlemania. Truly the only thing that kept me entertained during that shitty "strong style" matchup.

I'm too tired to type in a report right now, but you guys wen't to the wrong show, they put on a great one tonight. Some low points, some things that dragged, and a few assholes in the crowd, but I don't think I saw one bad match.
Oh, and remeber that ECW event where the crowd tossed their chairs into the ring. Yep. I actually didn't like it for a few reasons, but on the other hand, it was kind of cool to see.

My views on Wrestlemania 22....
~Opening tag title match was alright. Nothing too special that you wouldn't have seen on Raw. Possibly made for an interesting Carlito/Masters feud. Do I smell a Carlito face turn in the works?
~Money in the Bank ladder match was pretty entertaining. I was pretty surprised it came so early in the card. I really wish they had an angle of when Shelton magically like jumped up onto the second or third from the top rung of the ladder. One second I see an empty side of the ladder, next thing I know, he's up on there from nowhere and the crowd is going apeshit. Oh yeah, and the Flair bump was pretty awesome I must say. Overall, I rate it as a very solid match.
~JBL vs Benoit match was pretty ok. Nothing too wonderful, but watching JBL get heat off Guererro was pretty well done. Such a great heal.
~Foley vs. Edge hardcore match was everything I expected. Ridiculously entertaining, but saw an awesome finish with the spear through the flaming table. I can safely say I didn't really expect Edge to take the thumbtack bump, but sure enough he owned up and did it. Very very entertaining match. Possibly my favorite of the night.
~Booker T vs Boogeyman...pretty pretty pretty pretty bad. I shall say no more.
~Mickie vs Trish was more entertaining than expected. Minus the botched Stratusfaction spot at the end, it was a pretty decent match. Oh yeah, and I love how Mickie is over now. A big WTF for that.
~Sans Undertaker flying through the air, this match kinda drew me to a near coma/nap. Oh yeah, and Henry trying to pin the Undertaker...CLASSIC!
~HBK vs Vince was pretty alright. Not great, but pretty entertaining. Watching Shawn fly off that 15 foot high ladder was pretty ridiculously great.
~Triple threat for the World belt I didn't catch most of cause outr DirectTV went out because of the minor storm. I was pretty pissed, but I did catch the ending. Seemed entertaining enough what I caught of it. Glad Mysterio won, even though it was pretty predictable.
~Playboy Pillow Fight...why the fuck did this come so late in the show?!?? I understand the need for an intermission setting up the main event, but come on now. This?! At least show us some booby. Seriously.
~HHH vs Cena was so-so. The ending pissed me off alot more than I thought it would have. Trips had the crowd in his hand the whole night, and hearing JR and the King try to explain why Cena was getting so much heat was priceless. "Chicago is more a traditional wrestling city and they're not into Cena's unique style. Blahblahblah" So awesome. But overall, I must say I was shocked Cena pulled of the win.
Overall, solid show. Much better than anticipated. But nothing during the night came off as great to me as HHH in his throne and viking attire. I seriously need a picture of that so that I can display it proudly to everyone I know. HHH the mighty Viking! He shall rape and pillage your town!
Oh yeah, and the two seperate uses of the DX crotch chop...whats the deal with that....? Possibly will be reading more into it than needed, but a reunion? Possible? That would be neat.

WM 22 was a lot of fun. It was a much better show than I expected. Of course, seeing it live, I'll have a slightly different perspective. We had pretty awesome seats.
Money In The Bank, The Triple Threat match, The Women's Title Match, and Hardcore Match were all good. I think I'm coming to terms with the fact that I find Mickie James to be pretty freaking hot. My buddy next to me kept trying to get a good pic of her ass during the match...at one point, he had a perfect shot, but ppl in front of us stood up! His reaction: "FUCK!"
HHH/Cena was fucking BRUTAL, sorry. I don't think those guys knew what to do with themselves, considering the crowd was so damn mixed. Neither guy could really feed off of crowd pops. HHH was marginally more over, though. He's still using the "The Game" song, but during his Conan The Barbarian entrance (classic!) there was, apparently, ANOTHER Motorhead song playing. The HHH/Cena entrances were the biggest WTF moments of the night by far. Its like they were doing the whole gangster (as opposed to GANGSTA) thing to try to get Cena over in Chicago, but the pic of Al Capone in his entrance got louder pops than he did. During the match, we noticed Pat Patterson and Johnny Ace watching from ringside. They looked unamused.
I also went to the Hall of Fame and the brunch the morning of WM, which featured Joey Styles shooting on not calling WM, and several of the midcarders who weren't on the main show, like Jamie Noble, Misterrrrrrrrrr KENN-EDY (who was hugely over with the crowd...they're gonna have to make him a face soon, I think), Tatanka (BUFFALO!!!), Rob Conway, Tyson Tomko, Orlando Jordan, Trevor Murdoch, Road Warrior Animal, and Sensational Sherri. There was a dark match battle royal before WM with all those guys except Kennedy and Sherri of course that Viscera won (Eugene and MNM were also were in it).
So, yeah, it was a great weekend, but I'm glad its over, if only so I don't have to stand it any more fucking long-ass lines. It was my first WM though, so it was great to go live.
And, yeah, we totally noticed the crotch chops. HHH would never want to share the spotlight with HBK, but it would be interesting if they made him a face, considering how much fucking heat Cena gets.

I was pretty disappointed for 50 bucks. I must say my kid is happy as can be as he's a huge Rey Mysterio fan. That match was way to quick. It was a bunch of finishers over and over and then it's done. It was exciting but it was like a 3 inning baseball game where both teams scrored 10 runs and Rey wins it with a walk off or something. I don't know, bad analogy but it could have been better and should have been longer. The chick match was hot, I loved the crowd rooting for the psycho, the announcers had no idea how to call that match. I think my favorite match was the ladder match. Again, it was kinda quick, nothing like the Edge and Christian v.s. Hardy's matches of the past though I guess they lack the tallent or something. The opening match was a sleeper and the JBL match was meh.
I can't believe how terrible Boogyman was in the ring. His in ring ability against a non jobber was pathetic. His chops seemed to have no impact and the announcers seemed to even have problems talking it up. Terrible match.
That reminds me the in ring mistakes at the end of the womens match were terrible. The way Micky one was ridiculous, someone needs to tell her if she messes up a big move, then she needs to follow it up with another impact move or just flat out set her oppononent up again.
The Foley match was decent I really was thinking Edge was hurt at the end but I think it was the makeup and acting. He put on a good show. Those two should have gone a little longer as well though. Overall I give this mania 2 out of 4 stars.
Oh, I liked the Vince v.s. Seas Micachaels match despite the fact it's a plot that's been recylcled a billion times.

Alright...we can't let the biggest WWE story of the week and possibly of the year so far pass us by.
ANOTHER PATENTED DIESEL VISUAL PRESENTATION
=
You know, my wife and I are big fans. Or should I say WERE big fans. But after hearing all the stuff going around about his suspension, I must say this guy is an IDIOT. Seriously, Randy, WTF?!? You had your whole career ahead of you, and you basically destroyed it by acting like a total asshole. I realize wrestlers aren't nice guys to begin with, but the backstage stories I'm hearing about this are something else, especially his treatment of women. I cuss like a goddamn sailor, but the "C" word bugs even me. Especially since women are a huge chunk of his fanbase. Add to this reported diva tantrums and general sense of entitlement, and you basically have the biggest career torpedoing and wasted potential seen since Lex Luger.
What's even worse is, with him off the canvas for God's know how long, we might very well see both Mark Henry and Chris Fucking Masters get title reigns. Henry because that belt needs to transition back to a heel before "Big Dave" Batista returns, and Masters because they're probably going to want to rewrite the record book for "Youngest Champion in WWE history." And Henry and Masters are barely qualified to change my oil or bag my groceries, much less hold world titles.
The one good thing that could come from this is Mr. Kennedy...KENN-EDY...becoming a top heel on SD after he returns.
But, yeah, what a letdown. Can't say Orton doesn't deserve whatever he gets, especially if this stuff is true.

Booker T and Ron Simmons wrestled in WCW and won the title (shortly after the WCW closure, Booker was still recognized as WCW champion WITHIN WWE during the whole "Invasion" clusterfuck, if you wanna count that), and Ron Killings won it in TNA, but The Rock, half-black though he may be, is the closest WWE has come. There have actually been more Hispanic champions (Morales, Guerrero, now Rey) there than black ones. Jigga needs to start watching wrestling and write a letter.
I'm hearing that Orton acted like a total ass at the Westin Hotel in Rosemont, where the wrestlers stayed. Apparently, he stormed up to the front desk (WWE personnel had their own seperate secure entrance) and demanded "his fucking keys" despite being told his keys were in the secure entrance area. He also entered the building where he wasn't supposed to and bitched out a valet. He also violated dress code: we saw him at a signing in jeans and a Black Sabbath t-shirt. Apparently he caused quite the scene at the hotel. I don't know if this was the final straw as it were, but it just seems like his general attitude was too much to take. I'm sure the full story will wind up on line soon enough.

From PWINSIDER.COM (I'm coping the story because it's pop-up hell over there):
"WWE has made the decision to bring back Extreme Championship Wrestling as a full time entity and has begun talking with former ECW talent about returning to work for the new version of the legendary promotion. As of right now, WWE is targeting a September return for the promotion. No decision has been made as to exactly how the company will be brought back yet. It's possible that it will take over the present OVW territory, that it will be a promotion that gets matches on the Raw and/or Smackdown promotions or possibly in some other manner. Sources have told us that Paul Heyman and Tommy Dreamer will be booking ECW when it starts up.
WWE has already contacted a number of ECW wrestlers and contracts will be sent out to them this week. The talents are being offered three year deals which consist of a series of one year contracts, with rollover clauses. A number of wrestlers have been contacted so far. We can confirm that WWE has talked with The Sandman, Francine and Balls Mahoney and will be sending contracts out to them this week."
While I'm a little apprehensive about it considering it will still technically be WWE, I'm still excited solely on the fact that Heyman and Dreamer are going to be booking. I wasn't a huge ECW fan when it was still around because my only exposure was the TNN show, but it was exciting and after seeing ECW One Night Stand from last year and the Bloodspot DVD, makes me believe that Heyman wouldn't let the brand be destroyed like people are probably scared that WWE will do. Even without a bunch of the big names that are in TNA now (Raven, Dudleyz, Rhino, Shane Douglas, Sabu), I think they'll be able to use some ECW "legends" and build the rest up with new stars that fit the style (hardcore or more technical like Malenko, Benoit, etc.). Although with all of this, I can't help but think this is just Vince McMahon's way to try and cripple TNA before they start gaining too much momentum.

PWTORCH is saying that the Sandman, Sabu, Balls Mahoney, Francine, Lance Storm, and Justin Credible have been talked to and/or offered contracts. This is along with Rob Van Dam, Kid Kash, Super Crazy, Johnny Swinger, and Al Snow who already are under WWE contract and would probably be a part of the new ECW. It also says that at the start at least, the brand would be a part of WWE's internet strategy (probably like how Heat and Velocity are streamed online) with Joey Styles doing play-by-play.

Thank God. I was getting sick of having to do all the bumping and heavy lifting in this thread. I need to share the burden.
Anyway...
ECW. This should/could be really awesome. I'm more excited about this than I've been about anything wrestling related for months now. WWE is really running on fumes right now...Smackdown, which was the better show for months last year, is really suffering with injuries and Orton's suspension. I'd look for JBL to get that belt back. RAW has only been marginally better...I'll admit that I'm starting to hate HHH's onscreen character a little less these days. My main beef with him has always been that he's just so dull ... now he's actually getting interesting. A DX reunion, MINUS X-PAC, PLEASE, could be interesting. But nothing compares to having ECW back. As long as Heyman and Dreamer are in control creatively, it should be fine. I think splitting the roster between "classic era" ECW talent and bringing in developmental guys is really the way to go...this shouldn't be strictly a throwback/nostalgia thing...you've got to move it forward somehow. The main reason I'm tuning in these days is to see how they'll bring it back. Last week's Joey Styles promo was the first shot.
WWE's title picture is in such disarray right now. The Smackdown belt is on a guy who needs to take time off for surgery; the RAW belt is on Mr. Popularity himself. Jesus...the crowd wants that guy's fucking HEAD. And I'm getting pretty sick of him, too. And I have no idea how to resolve the RVD Money in the Bank thing...considering JBL, the U.S. Champion, is likely getting the belt back (FUCKING YAWN), and RVD is said to be challenging him at the ECW PPV, then how do you end that match?
RVD can't fucking lose in an ECW ring...but are they REALLY GOING TO GIVE HIM THREE BELTS? (U.S., IC, and World?)
And...Spirit Squad. WTF.
Just thought I'd throw that in...their crowd reaction is generally totally dead, like cricket chirping dead, so what do they do? PUT THE TAG BELTS ON THEM. MOTHERFUCKERS.
Eh...more later. I've written too much.

Yeah, with Heyman and Dreamer in control, it should all be good times. I've actually missed a few Smackdowns, which is saying a lot because I never miss that show, but I felt like I didn't really miss anything except for that what I'm sure was awesome title match between Mysterio and Angle. Hopefully, the tag team title race can get more interesting if they actually build up Kendrick and London to be a viable threat against MNM. We could get some really great matches if they book everything right. And ugh at another JBL title run. He's doing a great job of holding it until Lashley takes it away.

I'm going to Mexico this weekend to see Cracker and Roger Clyne then i'm hulling ass back over the border at 9am Sunday to make it back to rest and take the kids to their first WWE PPV at US Airways Arena in Phoenix. My son is a huge Rey Mysterio fan so hopefully it's fun. I also hope I don't have to cover his eyes or walk out to the lobbey to much. I hope they put away most of the X Rates stuff. I feel funny bringing him. Almost like a bad parent.
Anyone know the matches taking place? I would like to see a list. Maybe i'll see whats on wwe.com.

I think the plan is for him to face Cena and either lose through some screwjob ending or win and the next night have him stripped of the title. All I think is that if they have RVD lose at ONS, even with a screw job, it better not be the main event because I don't think security will be able to handle the show ending like that.
