Yeah, me too especially considering that I was a bigger WCW fan than WWE right up until the end of it (but I have to admit that I was watching more WWE than WCW for the last year the company was around just because it was sometimes painful to watch). At WWE's online store, they have a combo pack of the book and the Monday Night Wars DVD, so I'm thinking I might pick that up.

did anything eventful happen at the RAW Season Premiere?

Big Show, Cena and Booker argued about who is the "Champion of Champions" and bragged about their movie roles (Big Show bragged about being in "The Waterboy" and Booker about being in "Ready To Rumble," which was met with laughter and Cena saying "Everyone knows THAT movie was a piece of crap!"). Cena also made a reference to Hulk Hogan in "Mr. Nanny," which is really why I just can't hate the man.

The three were all put in interpromotional matches. Show vs. Jeff Hardy (quick squash), Booker vs. RVD (Sharmell interferes, Booker wins) and the main event, Cena vs. Undertaker (no contest...Kennedy, Show and Booker interfere). The three champions will wrestle at Cyber Sunday. Fans will pick the stips.

Edge and Orton formed an anti-DX alliance. DX earlier squashed Cade and Murdoch in a street fight and made many, many, Gamecock jokes (they were at U of So. Carolina) and pimped their swag.

Chris Benoit wrestled Shelton Benjamin in a decent match and won.

Ric Flair wrestled Mitch (Spirit Squad) and brought out Money Inc., Roddy Piper and Arn Anderson, who ran the other four SS members out of the ringside area. Flair won handily.

Taz and JBL verbally sparred during commentary (all three announce teams called portions of the show). Was fairly amusing.

Melina advanced in the Women's title tournament over Torrie Wilson. A gaggle of divas served as "Lumberjills" for the match.

Umaga beat Kane. Kane must leave RAW. He beat up The Highlanders on the way out.

Cryme Tyme debuts next week.

Some other shit happened too that I can't quite remember. Must not be important. Show wasn't that great, but it was fun seeing Flair bring out all the old dudes (Mike Rotunda was even in full Irwin R. Schyster costume!).

Oh yeah...saw the Marine on Friday night. It was basically everything I hoped it would be. Amazing. Simply amazing. Explosions. Gunfire. Awful dialogue. Stereotypical black guy complaining that he has to do stuff just because he's black. More explosions.

Thoughts on Lashley becoming the new ECW champ? I understand they need a major guy to to be on top, but it's leaving a bad taste in my mouth seeing all these WWE guys being #1 in ECW. It reminds me of the invasion angle when it was just WWE guys trading the WCW title back and forth with each other.

I get the fact that WWE looks at WWECW as the C-Brand, but I do think it's a little strange that a few months ago, Lashley wasn't fit to headline a PPV with King Booker without adding Batista into the mix, but now he can be a "world" champion. For someone who was trying to remain optimistic about this whole ECW thing, reading about how horrible of a show it was last night is really being a tipping point. They obviously have no intention of having ECW resemble the original ECW in anyway other than having a few of the old guys in it, and more importantly, they're not really doing anything to distinguish it from the other brands. Rumor is that Sabu is going to be released soon and that RVD wants out when his contract is up in 6 months, so if that does happen, hopefully WWE cuts their losses and just combines ECW into the other brands (and hopefully get rid of the whole brand split). Of the original ECW guys, the only ones that I can really see sticking around are Tommy Dreamer (because he'll just get put back in the front office) and The Sandman (because even though they don't seem to let him wrestle, he is in better shape than he's been in a long time and could be a credible IC/US champion on Raw or Smackdown). Hopefully they don't ruin CM Punk with all of this considering he's getting huge pops and can actually work, although with the booking of him to be the first eliminated last night one week after getting one of the biggest pops at Survior Series isn't looking good.

the ECW ppv last night was pretty painful to watch, I thought. There was so much potential for the show to be really a great way for ECW to establish themselves as its own brand, but it just came across as a third rate WWE program. Especially the fact they cut Sabu from the main event all together and also the way the Chamber match played out. It started off really strongly I felt, what with Hardcore Holly, RVD and Punk exchanging chair throws/chair shots at one another. It really seemed like a great start to a match where the top two guys that I wanted to see (Punk and RVD) were basically eliminated right off the bat. And the fact that the barbed wire bat wasn't even used really left a sour taste in my mouth.

I haven't really seen any of it, but this whole ECW situation sounds pretty tragic. So much wasted potential. At this point, it almost seems like a move designed to discredit and bury the huge legacy of ECW. We should have known really. As stupid as it sounds, ECW was the avant garde of wrestling while it was around. It was wrestling for the hardcore fans, and I don't just mean that in the violent sense. The subject matter of old ECW angles was stuff previously untouchable in the industry. ECW can't be what is was while it's a wing of WWE because WWE could never stand behind the kind of risk, both physical and cultural, that ECW was all about. It feels about as authentic as the gap selling anarchy t-shirts.

I really, really, wanted to give ECW a chance. Even after their awful early shows, I thought "They're just finding their footing ... it won't be The Zombie and Macho Libre EVERY week." Now I'm starting to MISS The Zombie and Macho Libre. That shit was at least entertaining. Today, I'm seeing original ECW guys being treated like total jobbers, when they're used at all.

You're all pretty much OTM. ECW can't be the alternative to the mainstream anymore...it IS the mainstream. And it doesn't seem like WWE really even puts any effort into it anymore. I'm unsure what Paul Heyman's status is (it seems to change every week) but last I checked, he was actually head writer, which is shocking to me because he can do so much better, but the McMahons are undoubtedly vetoing and neutering everything he tries.

ECW at this point is strictly a marketing/commercial sales/ratings enterprise. No effort is really going into it. For evidence: only TWO matches were actually promoted before the PPV. I didn't even bother ordering it.

As for Black Lesnar (Lashley), I read online not too long ago that they're willing to put the belt on a guy who may not be a huge draw because they don't need to rely on house gate receipts. No house shows, tapings in conjunction with Smackdown, etc.

God forbid the ECW champion actually BE an ECW guy, eh?

I hope Sabu gets fired and RVD gets his release and for some reason, Heyman gets out of his contract. Then I hope they go off and form a new company. It would seriously give WWECW a run for its money I think. These guys have been given a stage to make a name for themselves and they have succeeded. Now that a few of them are semi-household names on the national pro-wrestling circuit, they can go out and forge their own mark. Start small and come up big time. I honestly think if Heyman managed ot get things going and was willing to put the financial aspect of it all in to someone else's hands, whatever kind of promotion he puts together would be a smash.

Jeeze, I can only dream i guess.

Imagine the impact (no pun intended) if they got picked up by TNA and Heymann was put into a position of creative power!

Of course, I doubt WWE would ever let that happen. Heymann is dangerous for his credibilty, even as a mere figurehead in another company.
